May I join please and thanks for the thread @elsiepac.
Previous attempts have been thwarted due to the footfall through this house but after the first week in January I mostly only have to feed myself and the House Troll (teenage son). I make lunch for my best friend 3 times a week and the HT's best friend is sometimes here of an evening so I feed her too. We also have a cat so it's also for her food and litter. The litter costs go down in the warmer weather when her majesty deigns to wander down to the bottom of the garden but she won't put more than a couple of whiskers outside when it's cold. She's an old lady cat now and we love her so litter tray it is.
As my last working day will be January the 7th, I will in theory have more time to cook and will be able to use up the contents of the freezer. My first job will be to make raspberry jam from the garden raspberries that I froze in the summer as there's none left on the jam shelf in the cupboard. There is some bramble jelly left so we'll manage with what we have for now. I will make my best friend an apple pie too so that will be another container gone. At the moment the freezer is so full that I can't do any batch cooking because there is no room to fit anything else in.
It's a five week month for me so the budget is £400 but if I spend all of that I won't be happy. Any money left at the end of the month will be saved towards the food shop for next Christmas. I always buy a few extras and this year I thought I'd cook all twelve pigs in blankets as the HT likes them although I don't. He polished off 8 of them as well as the rest of his dinner..... I need to make some more mince pies for my aunty - she said that the ones that I took to her house were the best she'd ever had and what did I put in them? I have no intention of telling her that it was jars of shop bought mincemeat that sailed past their "best before" date sometime during the summer.
I will have to buy milk and bread most weeks - the HT and his friends sit and gossip with cups of tea (could be worse) and I'd rather they were in the house than wandering the streets. This will be interesting.8 -
I will cheer on from the sidelines, however I do always do my own January challenge. It's the only month I do a complete month meal plan and try to use up all the bits from Christmas and bought in a whim foods in the freezers and cupboards.
I TRY but dont always succeed to using my breadmaker and frozen bread. I always have cash in my purse in January that I try to use to buy the veg, fruit and salads and send husband to get these along with fresh milk.
Will see how I get on.

Could I join in please? There is me and my 16 yo for all meals. I work from home and DS is home educated. I have joined the vegan store cupboard challenge thread and plan to use up some stores and not buy what I don’t need. We have a dog and this will also cover treats for her (and chicken) but I budget separately for her wet food and kibble which I buy online. We spend around £10 per week with the milk man which has to come out of the grocery budget. Cleaning products and toiletries are mostly budgeted separately.
Grocery Budget for January is £250.
