Chase UK Direct Debits

Hi,

This is a question for those that use the Chase UK app.

I'm looking to create a separate account that holds funds exclusively for bills and pays them via a set of Direct Debits on that account.

The Chase app offers the ability to create up to 10 bank accounts for a single user and has three types of account when you tap the 'add' button in the app:
  • Spending account
  • Saver account
  • Roundup account

I was wondering which of these accounts would be best to use for the purpose stated above?

Do they all accept direct debits or is this exclusive to the spending account?

Also, the spending account is the default type of a new user, if I create another one does this mean they'll send another card? Or is some kind of additional virtual card created?

Almost uniquely, Chase lets you pay Direct Debits from savings accounts, so I'd choose Saver account from those options, if I were you. That way, you'll earn interest on the money whilst it's sitting there.

You could select Spending account, but that's just an ordinary current account, and you wouldn't earn any interest. You wouldn't get an additional debit card, nor a virtual card, but you can change which current account your debit card is linked to, at any time.

You pay your neighbour's bills?  Do you want to pay mine, too?  :D

I use my Chase savings account for direct debits and standing orders but it is a minefield

Since I opened the account, every month one or more standing orders have been repeatedly flagged up as suspicious requiring a call to customer services

Also bear in mind that Chase process standing orders on weekends unlike practically every other UK bank that processes the next available working day

However as I've just found out, they didn't process a standing order on bank holiday Monday just gone and when I questioned customer services about this they assured me it would be paid today, but it wasn't so they effectively just cancelled the payment without any notice

I might just bring this to the Financial Ombudsman's attention, you can't operate a bank account on that basis

I have had exactly the same issue, SO for the 26th has not gone today. As you say, cancelled
P.S. You can't go to the FOS until you have exhausted Chase's complaints procedure

Being discussed here too - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6413312/chase-bank-standing-order-issue-still-not-sent-on-the-28-12-2022-check-yours/

    Edit: Just had a thought.

Were DDs processed from Chase current accountsthis thread on time, and was it just those from their Savings accounts that were delayed/cancelled.

Savings accounts with nearly every provider, bar Chase, exclude DDs anyway, so nothing to compare against really.

I had a payment that was scheduled to pay out yesterday (27 Dec) from the Saver, and I received an app notification the day before (26 Dec) informing me it would happen.

As of now it still hasn't been paid, and when I check its summary, the next scheduled payout date is 27 Jan.
