Barclays 4% ISA. If you're not already a customer....I wouldn't bother !

Having read  in Martin's blog that if you're not a Barclays customer and want to avail of their 4% one year ISA you have to apply in Branch, I duly presented myself at their Abington St Northampton Branch this morning. The lady I spoke to insisted that I had to create a profile on line and then come back to the Branch. I challenged this so she went to check with her manager. She returned and reiterated that it had to be done online.  I came back home and tried to do it online but as I'm not yet a customer it would not allow me to even start the process. I rung their call centre and Andrew confirmed that as I'm not a customer, it had to be done in branch. However he also told me that I could not transfer an old Isa in "because I had already contributed in the current year".  I insisted I could as I've done it before. He put me through to Rachel who agreed with me that of course I could transfer old money across and also that I was given incorrect information in Branch and that ISA's must be open in branch if you're not an existing customer. Come on Barclays. it looks like I've identified a number of training needs which amounts to an Account Prevention Department.  Given that the first available appointment in Northampton is not until February, I dont think I'll bother !

I phoned one day regarding opening an ISA also. Was told the only way was to open a current account and apply online then for the ISA. No mention of any option of going into branch(there is none near me anyway)
I have an online profile with barclays as previously had accounts there, but can't actually log in now as no accounts there currently.
Sure there will be another 4% 1 yr fix available soon.

Not too sure if another 4% one year ISA will be on the market that quickly. There is this crazy situation whereby the base rate has risen but savings and mortgage rates have actually reduced in the last few weeks as one year / two year and three year savings rates are based on the long term interest rate forecast which has actually come back down from a forecasted 6% (thanks Liz Truss) to around 4% so I think I'll settle for one at around 3.6%  / 3.8%. I suppose we're both lucky enough to have the money to go looking for the best interest rate. It's definitely a first world problem  :)
  • Opened a current account online, really easy and quick. Opened a rainy day and a flexible ISA within 30 seconds. Recommend getting a current account as it makes the process seem less

Well in the case of the Rainy Day account that is linked to blue rewards and comes with some hurdles to make it free, otherwise you are paying £5 a month.

Yeah I sorted that through DD and SO so all sorted, but just in the topic helping show how easy it was to open them from the app.
