Bristol Energy Smart Meter not recognised by British Gas

I am quite prepared to avoid using high energy electric appliances in off peak hours, especially to avail of discounts offered by British Gas. However, since taking over my dual fuel account with Bristol Energy in February 2022, British Gas has ignored my requests to replace my previous Smart Meter with one of theirs. I am on a fixed rate contract which expires in January 2023. How do I get British Gas to get on their bike and stop stalling?

Suppliers no longer fit branded smart meters. All SMETS2 meters are supplier agnostic. By the sound of it, you have a SMETS1 meter which is not connected to the DCC Network, and your smart meter has gone dumb on switch.  You can check your meter status here:

Suppliers are not allowed to replace SMETS1 meters that can be enrolled on the DCC Network. The firmware update process is ongoing.
