Sky Stream

Options
Hello,

I'm considering Sky Stream, Sky's no-dish, Internet only service.

However I can tell how it works in terms of catch up, as it doesn't record anything.

Basically Id like to know if all programs are available to watch later?
Some programs aren't available through the usual streaming apps, I'd assume because of licensing, but does Sky Stream have access to everything?

One example is I watch British Touring Cars on ITV4, but this has never been the ITV app, other than really short highlights.
As the racing is on all Sunday, I dont have the time to watch it all live, so rely on recordings at the moment.

My other question is about adverts on catch up. With a recording box, you can fast forward the ads, but would this be possible on the Sky Stream?

Thanks, Dean

Not all programs will be on demand but a large chunk will be.
Sport is always subject to relatively unique restrictions/licence requirements which don't always quality for on-demand.

    Re: adverts - no.

Sky can only have programmes on catch up if the deal between the TV company and the producer allow the original channel to do it. As it doesn't appear on the ITV hub for later viewing then there is no agreement.
BTCC only allow highlights in the weeks after, the same for the supporting races.

depends on the sport as well.  They'll be more protective of high profile things like football, F1, The Open, and what not, more than, I dunno, something more tedious like Yachting.

The World Cup Final is showing as being on iPlayer for the next 30 days.  There's no dates on ITV Hub for, well anything, but assume its the standard 30 days.

Match of the Day however is a totally different kettle of fish and its all because that's what the agreement is with the Premier League:

As far as I am aware any catch up options available are just what is available on the relevant channel's catch up service when Sky is no involved.  Basically all it does is take you to the relevant page in iPlayer/ITV Hub/All 4 etc.  If the programme isn't available in iPlayer/ITV Hub etc then you can't catch up via Sky Stream.
  • Thanks for all the replies.

Looks like sky q s worth a few quid more to make sure I can actually record things rather than relying on catch up services.

    Cheers all!

There are other solutions to recording that don't involve SkyQ.

ITV4 is FTA, so a Freesat box that records will do the same job.  It may cost more money and be a bit more clunky, but it'll be yours.

I seem to recall that Sky can disable fast forwarding through adverts on recordings and VOD , and make this fast forward the adds  ‘facility’ available to those that will pay an extra  £5/month

There's quite a few offers on Sky Q that make it cheaper than stream at the minute. Seen £22 for Q with netflix Included. Was looking at stream and it was costing the same without netflix.

Plus the whole stream might record something or divert you to iplayer to watch it instead etc wasnt sounding too good.
