    If it gets stuck on a single rate and it happens to be the day rate, then you bills could go up.  However, why even risk an issue?   It is so much easier to get a new meter installed.

    You definitely will not just get left without electricity. There is however a possibility that you *could* get stuck on peak-rate electricity. 

    I’d question whether there is also a possibility that if no actual “switch” occurs, whether this means that anything running only on the off peak circuit might not operate? Apologies if this was covered previously!

    I think you are absolutely right.

     I recall some years ago our teleswitch failed and needed to be replaced. The night storage heaters were totally inoperable until the replacement switch was fitted.
