Ryanair now liable for compensation for flights disrupted by strike action in 2018

I just happened to catch this on the CAA news site: https://www.caa.co.uk/news/update-on-ryanair-enforcement-action/

The good news is that you can now claim compensation for disruption to Ryanair flights that resulted from pilot strikes in 2018. Ryanair has dropped their appeal. I can't imagine that many people who were impacted are going to see this, but I thought I would post it anyway. I wonder if someone on Martin's team can access the flight delay tool and notify people who might have tried to claim previously?

The bad news is that there is clearly a wider issue here in that by dragging this through the courts, enough time has passed that most of the people impacted will not be aware of this or even remember if they were impacted. Ryanair should be required to notify impacted customers. I also strongly suspect they dropped the appeal to the Supreme Court so that they don't set a precedence. If the Supreme Court had upheld the decision then I assume that it would open up compensation liabilities for all airlines when flights are impacted by strike action. By dropping the appeal after 4 tears of waiting, I assume Ryanair will have saved significant costs by not having to pay out compensation, and can continue to use this nefarious tactic to avoid compensation. As if you needed another reason to avoid Ryanair though!
