Digital Nomad Visas - Spain

  • I'm not sure exactly what Spain is aiming at here
Well given the name I'd say they are looking at digital nomads - people as you say who are freelance or remote workers who while not employed by a Spanish company and who don't otherwise have the right to live and work in Spain, want to live in Spain.

its really just a way to formalise and get tax from people who would probably have previously gone under the radar or been limited by tourist visas.

If you make a living creating Youtube content on paella or as an academic studying the behaviour of drunken British tourists in Benidorm then you can now do so a bit more easily and legally in Spain. If someone wants a job fixing SEATs at the local garage in Seville or answering calls for Iberdrola in Bilbao then it's not the right visa for them.

Political debate is not allowed on the forums since 2020.
The forum rules at https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/forum-faqs/ make no mention of that, where are you getting that from?

Debate is encouraged, but attempting to derail a topic is not encouraged.

Personally I completely agree with the points that poster makes but it isn't on the subject matter of this topic and therefore will likely be found to be in breach of the rules.

The topic in question is requirements for a specific visa for Spain, not a debate on British government domestic policy.

  • It's not a debate on policy, it's a fact of life now. And also a hope that there might be some way to recover lost rights.

Unfortunately this visa doesn't look too be it. There are other ways, but none as easy as say applying for an Irish passport through inherited rights.

As pointed out, this nomad visa doesn't restore freedom of movement, greatly limiting opportunities for 2nd class citizens.

It's so unfair that there's no way for some of us to get an EEA passport now. Second class citizens.
Anyone with an Irish parent or grandparent had the right to have an Irish passport long before the word brexit ever existed, and by descent in other EU countries such as Germany and Italy, before brexit it was common for eligible Americans to obtain dual citizenship using European Descent, as US citizens have never had FOM, that includes my own American born cousins who hold Irish Passports due to my aunt being from Belfast.

So it’s not really unfair, unless you are implying that EU countries shouldn’t be free to set their own nationality legislation.  Some people are lucky enough to be entitled to hold other nationalities and some people are not, that’s just life I’m afraid.

It's unfair because brexit took away my EU citizenship, and I have no way to get it back. Before brexit there was no difference between me and another Brit with Irish grandparents, now they have more opportunities and easier travel.

We are no longer equal, and I did not want that.
