  • I've just calculated that from 1st Jan the threshold for E7 (Shell energy) has moved up to 41%. I currently run under floor heating, in three rooms, for a couple of hours just before E7 ends,  as well as the dishwasher and washing machine, and this only gets me to 30%. I'm at a loss, unless you have a Tesla Powerwall (or similar) / EV, as to how anyone else can now make E7 work now. Surely with a (daytime) energy crisis in full swing tariffs should be encouraging people to move to E7, not push them away from it. I've been on E7 for as long as I can remember and am now investigating how to move to single rate. Hopefully it doesn't involve yet another meter swap and hopefully it's a simple process to return to E7 again when the tariff matches my needs.
I’m currently running at somewhere above 95% night rate use - this will drop back during the summer obviously but right now it’s about that level.
That should have been me too. I ordered a Powerwall back in Feb for Oct installation. DNO approved then delayed in July to next April and then the price recently rose to £12k making it financially, even at these scary rates, unjustifiable.
  • ahh that’s frustrating pensionpawn. Ours is purely based on regular consumption though - heating, hot water and general background use. our 29kWh overnight cost us under £5 even including the SC, and we’ll not add more than another couple of kWh to that across the rest of the day, all being well.

There is something wrong there somewhere. The NSH's and immersion should all be heating up on the night rate - but those figures don't suggest that is what is happening. I don't suppose your two readings have got transposed have they, so that the day reading you give to the supplier is being billed as the night one? Can you give us the night readings from that bill, too please?
Hi thanks for looking into this for me, really appreciate it:  here is the night readings from the bill:

    Energy Used (Night) 27.0 kWh @ 23.1143 p/kWh           £6.24
That seems very to low for a day reading to me, But it can't be the night if you are heating water and heaters at night.

    Energy Used (Day) 266.0 kWh @ 36.9238 p/kWh £98.22 28 Oct 2022 24250.0

8.5 kwh a day would cover hot water and fridge, are the heaters not on yet in that month?
Yes hearing was not on that month

register 1 for day and register 2 for night!
I have the same EDF meter and Rate 1 = low (night), Rate 2 = normal (day). It’s on a small sticker so they may not all be the same.

They are certainly not all the same, so yours is a good example of what can happen.

and this is from my current bill:
    Energy Used (Day) 266.0 kWh @ 36.9238 p/kWh £98.22 28 Oct 2022 24250.0
    29 Nov 2022 24277.0 Customer Read

Looks like it’s mixed up at the suppliers end.

We're trying to get rid of our terrible E7 tarriff with EDF, have a complaint with Resolver at the moment. They promised I could go onto single rate billing if I moved to them, but have not implemented this.
EDF have one of the best E7 tariffs.  I am close to moving to them as its so good.

Our problem is we have gas CH so the E7 rate is of no use to us whatsoever. The previous owners of our house had solar hot water panels (defunct and removed now) and seemed to run their hot water off the E7 rate overnight in winter. They never noticed they had transposed meters. Like an idiot I got that sorted out, I could have been having night rate electric in the day if I wasn't so honest.........

Finally got a call from EDF this week as a result of Resolver and seemingly they have sorted me out with a single rate tariff backdated to September (it's taken that long), but I've yet to see the bill they promised they would raise. At least I can stop getting up at stupid o'clock to do my ironing.
