  • Bright manages it with ……. gas

Sadly, BRIGHT doesn’t manage it with gas. It uses a FIXED CV. BRIGHT also allows you to manually refresh the data whereas Octopus pulls data from a smart meter once every 24 hours ( which is what BRIGHT does if you don’t manually refresh).

Why is all this so important to you?

    Costs and pure interest

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.
  • My bill shows this multiplier as "Energy Conversion Factor" and on my last bill this was 11.03. How did this relate to the CV? The ECF is mutiplied to the m³ of gas consumed to get the Kwh.

It is just a different way of converting volume to kWh. The actual formula used should be shown on your statement. 11.03 equates to calorific value of 37.6Mj/M3

In many ways, a conversion factor is a better way of showing the volume to kWh relationship. It just means that 1M3 of gas (ie; one unit on a metric meter) equates to 11.03kWh of gas. If your unit price is 10p/kWh the cost per metered unit is £1.10.

So is there an equation to convert from my conversation factor to the CV rate... If so what is it?

Your Energy Conversion Factor appears to include the 'volume correction' factor so:
    Calorific Value = ECF * 3.6 / 1.02264 = ECF * 3.52

So are you saying that Bright doesnt give a true reading?

Yep.  It's the equivalent of IHD software not billing software.

Won't be far off, but won't be pence-accurate.

All devices and apps that calculate gas volume to kWh and cost have to use a fixed calorific value within the Ofgem calorific value range.

BRIGHT’s calculations differ from what is shown on the IHD (as the gas proxy meter built into the comms hub also uses a fixed calorific value) and both are slightly different from what appears on the final statement. The difference though is not worth bothering about.
