I have decluttered 2 jackets that I haven't worn for years - I did try them on before putting in the charity bag - big mistake - too small so I need to declutter some weight. Also got rid of 3 pairs of socks - part way through tidying my underwear drawer.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks
2. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ I have an acronym - I.R.I.S. being Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off
3. Implement a new sleep/wake up regime - start going to bed earlier (target before 2:00 a.m.) get up earlier (target by 9:00 a.m.)
4. Deal with daily mail immediately
5. Don’t put it down, put it away
6. If I spot a mini task deal with it immediately e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
7. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
So much for going to bed after posting - nodded off on the sofa & went to bed at 7:00 a.m. then woke up at 10:30 😔 DH received a text from his niece’s neighbour late last night - apparently she had been discharged from hospital & taken home by ambulance. The neighbour was so concerned about how groggy & out of it M was that he ended up taking her back to the hospital - so no doubt the whole rigmarole of going through A&E, waiting to see a dr & then being put in another room/ward. Even without knowing the full circumstances of M’s discharge my DH is absolutely fuming 😡
After the rain yesterday, Wednesday is chilly & darkly overcast. The wheelie bin has been emptied so back to normal. DSis has been up a couple of hours - she always chooses potentially rainy days to do her washing so has to use the td - guess who doesn’t pay the bills 😔 There are sounds of movement upstairs so DH will be up soon. No news yet about M. On a brighter note DH had a £50 win & I had a £50 & a £25 win on the Premium Bonds. New bin bag put in wheelie bin - so at least I have done something 🥲
Back to cheerleading 🙂
Muddy_Walker there is NO ‘smacking about the head’ on this thread - the biggest admonishment is what we call the ‘wagging finger emoji’ which disappeared when MSE changed their platform 😭Well done on getting so much done even after a day at work 👏 Not a fan of giving anyone a kick up the bum as I tend to fall over when I attempt it 🤣 Please give yourself a break, it will be hard getting back into a work/declutter routine after the Christmas holidays 😉
Kittikins, you can & you should call ‘putting bits of paper from your notebook in the bin’ decluttering. Excellent decluttering at home 👏
GrannyKate, the 23 minute a day is proving very popular & I like your idea of using it to make progress on frogs 👏 Excellent decluttering 👏 Fingers crossed that the contractors sign off on the drying out & that you get an early date for the decorating & new floors 🤞
Sorry to hear that your sleep is being disrupted by coughing nannywindow 🙁 lack of sleep can be so enervating 😔 although judging by how much you got done yesterday the ‘Energy Pixie’ paid you a visit 😉 An excellent day of decluttering, tidying, putting away & veg peeling & freezing 👏 Reminds me I DO need onions 😉
Good work the_cross_rabbit 👏 a Tip trip & the potential to earn some cash 🙂
Loving the pictures you are painting in your mind nannywindow - long may you stay slightly loopy 🥲 A ‘gentle push’ together with encouraging words is allowed 😉
Nice cheerleading Muddy_Walker 👏
pop the kettle on, All these jet-setting friends & family - yours from Spain, someone else (I forget who) had visitors from the U.S of A 🙂 Your DH is definitely a ‘keeper’ - always shared the housework 🤩 Yes, a top to toe house clean is definitely decluttering 👏 I find that the clothes hanger method does work 🙂 I believe that you are ‘allowed’ to keep seasonal & formal wear far longer. I think the idea is that this method makes you think about what & how much you have in your wardrobe & occasionally prompts a trying on session & a check that no nasties are munching away 😉 I recently decided that I no longer loved a party outfit so it was washed & donated to a CS rather than it staring balefully at me every time I opened the wardrobe 😂
Excellent decluttering from your airing cupboard, Madbat60 👏 Are you training for The Great British Sewing Bee by any chance 😉🙂
An excellent start to your decluttering campaign JC67 👏 Already on 10 & with plans to tackle hotspots which should yield so much more 🙂
Excellent decluttering SuffolkSue - you have been busy 👏 Well done on thinning out 2 baskets of memorabilia into 3/4 of a basket leaving space to add a few more bits as you come across them 🙂
A wonderful set of aims for 2023 regnbue 👏 They will not only keep you focused but will also help me make my awards decisions 😉😉 I now have a mental picture of you actually ‘skipping’ to the charity shop like Michael McIntyre 😂
Excellent work Bored 👏 Marie Kondo method in full view - “does not spark joy” Is there a friend, family member or neighbour who could give you a lift to the CS? Motivation to declutter seems to wax & wane much like the moon 😉 The trick is to do something/anything when it is waning - so very well done on keeping up your decluttering momentum 👏🙂
Florenceem, I have everything crossed that MrF’s wallet is found swiftly & intact 🤞🤞
With that much hair cut off you can definitely count it as decluttering herebeme 👏 The hairbrush is a good start to your decluttering campaign & the prep work for the toiletries should stand you in good stead for a decent amount of decluttering over the weekend 🙂
skogar, there are certainly lots of decluttering ideas about but I think the favourite so far is the “23 minutes a day” Well done on the pre Christmas decluttering 👏 I always think it is such a shame that not everyone in a household appreciates that a cleared surface or tidy drawer should be maintained & that it is NOT an invitation to fill the space 😔😔 Looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks when RL has calmed down 😊
What a nice idea for funeral service brochures weenancy 🙂 Just to add to everything you already do, I think you should write a book about the trials & tribulations of being a landlady 🙃 it would be a bestseller 🙂 I understand that the husky creates more work, but in her own unique way she is definitely helping with the decluttering 🥲 Now she just has to be trained to use the bin 😉 Excellent decluttering 👏 Fingers crossed that the pool man turns up soon 👏 as you can only cope with so much decluttering assistance from the husky 😉
You & me both ionafan 😉 I am currently struggling to catch up but will keep plugging away 😊 Excellent decluttering to the CS 👏 Well done on ‘finding’ the missing child 🙂 What a great key word “RE-EVALUATE”
Thanks bit_by_bit 😊 Well done on completing your 2 main tasks of the day 👏 One halo 😇 coming your way for all the work you have done & are doing to get FiL & MiL safely off on their cruise on Friday 👏 Not only are you an angel 👼 but also a saint 😇
P.S. DH went off on the motorbike about 40 minutes ago - another hunt for DSis’s milk & then on to the hospital to track down M. She is being kept in for at least another 48 hours.
Now signing off & picking something/anything off my To Do list 😉 but will have a coffee first 😂

I'm amazed how much I got shifted although it was easier as a lot of it was never used so an easy decision - no sentimental attachment.
Also threw away a small branch of the xmas tree which every year I try to re-attach, it having come away years ago. I've given up and it's gone.
I hope to post every fortnight. I have yet to have my annual wrestling match with the xmas tree trying to get it back in its box so hopefully that will be a success story for next time.
Rewarding myself with half watching a Jonathan Creek Xmas Special whilst sorting through a sack of cards/postcards/letters etc.

So many pages to catch up on already! Brilliant hearing what you’re all up to 😀
liking the sound of the 30 day challenge, but now I’m dithering about trying to decide how to tackle things this year. Do I stick with the 2023 for the year or go month by month lol
oh well my partner and I have had a good start anyway ,tackling 2 of the 3 sheds - more like toads than frogs so I’m glad that’s done! I definitely want to try and gobble up the frogs at froglet stage this year if I can 🤞

Hello
Bag dropped off at friends. With paper and envelope stickers.2 bags of stuff to charity shop. Some of it mine, some of it mum’s, kept kind of reactively at the time but now I’m like nah , I don’t need it and maybe someone else would like it.Then a boot load dropped off at the recycling centre. All with the company of my doggy who had a quick walk first then came for the ride!I felt like I’d done a big ✔️ on my mental to do list.18 -
These are the donation bags and 4 pictures that will be taken to the charity shop tomorrow. Also the bag of smoke alarms to be given to brother in law. I added some clothes to the donation bags as I went through my wardrobe yet again!

Can i join please. Have read some of the posts and think its just what I need. I would like to declutter all of my cupboards and sort /use up stuff in my craft shed and generally get more organised.
I havnt a clue how many bags I can declutter but don't think it would be rediculous to aim for 150.
Took down christmas decorations yesterday and sorted 3 crates worth including tree. Now only 2 to go back into roof and I cleared for craft stuff. I bag full cleared. Tidying understairs cupboard tomorrow. Not sure what I will find in there! 🤯craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

Welcome soontobesoap. Enjoy the company on the decluttering train.Taken headache tablets and am taking 5. Spare room clean and tidy. Our room almost tidy. Will finish it when the headache eases. Thanks Liverpool Anne for your suggestions. For now the photo and the ugly cats are on the shelves in the spare room. I have a long mirror on the stairs, because it’s so dark. I have pictures not yet put up since our move here 18 months ago. They are being kept for Justin. We may move again but then again we may not! That reminds me, I gave a massive frame to DS the other day for a poster he had been given.I am recording counting items again which are over and above everyday recycling.Sorry to hear about your niece Mrs SD. We have had similar recently with MIL being discharged at 3am to an empty house. The GP asked if we wanted to pursue a complaint for unsafe discharge but we declined as life is difficult enough atm without that too.4. Old diary
5. Velvet bedspread
6. Christmas slippers. Too big
6. Large glass lantern
7. 6 golf balls
8. Huge picture frame

Thanks taff and Keiths_Mum for your thoughts re the turkey and cheese. I've now got a hankering for a turkey pasta bake 🤤 but it will have to wait till the weekend as the turkey is still in the freezer. I did see the Jamie Oliver Brussel sprout bake, but the colour put me off a bit and DH wouldn't touch a vegetable if his life depended on it 🤣 ( other than an onion of course !) I on the other hand love nearly all vegetables.
Despite my early rise I have changed our bed and cleaned the upstairs, found a pair of trousers I had hidden from myself, had to go through everything in the wardrobe and found it in front of my nose second time around, doh !! I have also packed my overnight bag ready for tomorrow as DD and I are having a girls day/night at a hotel with afternoon tea and then a show (Les Mis) in Cardiff. Our DGS will come to keep to DH company so we'll get the spare bed ready too. Then it's a soak in a bubble bath for me and an early night.
Out today:-
A dented tea caddy
Empty carpet freshener tub
Empty box from liqueurs and also one from toffees.
A broken coat hanger binned and a bag of good hangers to the cs, I'm sure they breed in the wardrobe 🤨
MrsSD oh dear what a to do with M. I hope everything can be sorted out properly this time, I'm not surprised that your DH is fuming. Mind you they once tried to send my late SisiL home and she was unconscious !
nanFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently18 -
16 items of clothing gone today, either bin or charity bag.Took the Christmas decorations down yesterday and got rid of a few bits that didn’t go up/out this year.
Messaged plumber today about a quote for a new shower. I have been meaning to do this since August and DS was complaining about only being able to have baths.'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'16
