  • Yes, it shouldn't be a problem - you will normally get a number with your new phone and then you can ask o2 for a PAC.

To start the process, ask o2 for a nine-character Porting Authorising Code (PAC), which you take to your choice of dealer, and is the approval certification that makes it all happen.

    What Happens Next?

After a credit check, providing there are no outstanding bills payable to your old account, the request is processed between your old and new networks, and you will be given a date of transfer of your number.
The single PAC covers activation of your new account and disconnection of your old and you will receive communications from both parties confirming your requests.

Don't cancel you old contract until you have achieved the process.

If the OP is moving from contract to payg why will they need a credit check Mike ?

Also if the op asks O2, they will transfer her to PAYG without the need for a pac,and she can keep the same number.

    - again probably right if the op is staying with o2, but not clear from the post
