John Lewis / New Day Credit card : payment reminder but no statement

  • Just call them and ask and pay it with your debit card over the phone. Their app is straight forward and easy to use, you can see instantly what you owe etc and make payment accordingly (if you have a smartphone or tablet) or you can use their online portal on the website. If you're choosing to use the old fashioned paper statement option in this current climate of postal strikes etc you'll just have to put up with it, but your choice of communication options will only add to your delays and frustrations.

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.
  • Waiting for the follow up thread from the OP next month that says something along the lines of…

Couldn’t make a payment because I didn’t get a statement and they’ve charged me £12 and also my credit score is ruined.

Honestly, some people just enjoy making life difficult for themselves and them complaining about it.

It couldn't really be easier. You know we've had strikes and you probably won't get this statement on time. Just call them, they'll tell you how much you owe! Then pay over the phone with a debit card, job done. Worry about your next statement, the post will be more reliable by then.
  • You won’t have a dd with a credit card company, that you can see everything in an instant on the app, yet you have a dd with an energy provider who always take more than necessary, an it’s more difficult to see your transactions.

Once you set up your app, you’ll understand why people of all ages (my auntie is 83) are doing it!
  • Well, lots of critical comments there! Thanks for your inputs, everyone. Forgive me if I don’t respond individually, many of the points made are similar.

My statement arrived on the 16th, which gave me time to check it before paying it through my bank branch on the 19th. (So sorry, @DailyHail, I made my payment within time, so you won’t be reading any “boo-hoo wrecked my credit score” post from me. 😄 )

It was annoying to get two reminder emails from John Lewis about paying, neither of which actually stated the amount due (one in fact was empty except for the header).

@spinningsheep I note your (among others’) criticism of my choosing to receive paper statements: I have some vision problems which means I need them in large print (enlarging the print on screen means too much very tiring moving the viewing window). Likewise reading up about the app. Tough, but there it is.

Direct Debit with energy co is a pain, when I switched some years ago paper bills and quarterly payments were part of the offer, but after I’d signed up they were withdrawn. I was too ill at the time to follow it up.

Have a Happy Christmas all. 🎄 Over and out.

@Blue_Doggy My apologies if the post sounded critical, it wasn't meant to be, just stating fact. Fully appreciate your circumstances mean you need alternative methods of communication. The app would definitely be worth looking at, you could the potentially zoom in if your device allows.
