Transferring ISAs - Why is it so complicated?

My previous Cash ISA transfers have all gone relatively smoothly up till this year. Previous providers have included the likes of Coventry BS, Newcastle BS, Santander, Smile, Shawbrook Bank, Wesleyan all of whom have been involved in various transfers over the years, which have happened timeously and without fuss.

It is only this year that I have had inordinate problems with Virgin Money, consistent with many other customers all venting their dissatisfaction on this forum and Trustpilot. Atrocious customer service and on the face of it totally incompetent. Sadly I'm still an ISA customer with 2 years to go to maturity and I would rather cash in at that time and sacrifice my ISA wrapper than have to experience their dire service once more.
