Sand smooth, then put another thin coat on top. Scrape most of it off again, and it should fill the holes and need very little sanding.

    Thanks!

once fully sanded flat, what's the paint process? Do I need to give it a skim coat? Or just paint directly on?

I presume I'll need to use ceiling paint; will I need to paint the whole ceiling else the new paint will show up?

Skim coat is a term for plastering. Just paint two coats of white emulsion. How long ago was your ceiling painted? If a while (more than a year), you may have to do the whole ceiling, in which case, a couple of coats over your repair as undercoat first then the whole ceiling with a fresh top coat.

My bad, I meant a mist coat. I've used easyfill 60
for doing the filling so thought that needed starred down paint first else it draws the water out, or is it ok? It will have been at least 5 years as we haven't ever done it and that's when we moved in but we are decorating the room anyway so its not a huge problem

A mist coat will be fine. Give the area a couple of coats of paint before doing the whole ceiling, and you shouldn't ever notice the patch.
