Passport question.

  • I think I was thinking that maybe other countries recognised our passports beyond 10 years as we were in Europe, which may have changed now we are not and may also affect 5 year passports. I then made the mistake of asking a question about it on facebook.

A passport is valid for 10 yrs from date of issue so if a child then 5yrs
The date of issue was May 18 therefore it will expire May 23
I would get a new one if I were you, don't want to be getting turned away at the airport.

Were you one of those giving OP false information on Facebook?

Afraid so. Any UK passport is valid until the expiry date printed in it. It is only for EU travel that validity longer than ten years is not accepted. So there's clearly no issue for OP's son.
    Evolution, not revolution

Indeed, as you'd already pointed out on page one over a week ago....

OP’s first post says sons passport expires Oct 23. So it will be valid for travel to Maldives up until that date .

The only requirement is to have 6 months left in the passport which there will be. So it doesn't need renewing. Try this passport checker if you want more confidence:
