Travel money for teenagers

My DD is fortunate enough to be going on a school trip to Iceland in October next year. What is the best way for her to handle travel money independently?

Card is 'safer' but runs the risk of being lost/damaged or the PIN being forgotten.  There are also potential charges for use.  Cash is simpler but higher risk.

You don't mention her age. 16+ can open Starling Bank or Monzo accounts, 11+ the Nationwide FlexOne account, all have debit cards fee-free for overseas transactions. There may be others. Cash, likely unnecessary in Iceland, can be taken from ATM.

Easiest is cash, but ask the school what the plan is. Depending on the age many schools will hold cash for the kids only letting them have signifcant amounts on dedicated shopping days or similar.
