You don't have to travel to register... you can do it at the registration office closest to you, it's called registering "by declaration".

The two registration offices should be able to arrange it for you between them.
this has been discussed: it can take longer to do it this way, and I am not sure if you walk out with the certificate in your hand or if they are put in the post. ATM I would not trust anything put in the post to arrive this side of next Christmas. So do check before you go down this route.

What about religions who demand burial with 24 hours.  How on earth does that work?
In Ireland it is the norm to have funerals just a couple of days after death. In our family they are  big funerals with lots of mourners, wakes, flowers, beautiful service sheets, carriages etc so I have no idea how they manage that so quickly but they do. They can’t believe it is a minimum of 2 weeks for a funeral in England.

    Sorry for your loss.

Could someone advise on hymns.  We are looking at a very simple service.  Who organises the hymns?  I can choose them but does the priest organise the music and we sing along?

What about the organist? Who arranges that? Do I need to provide CD’s? Or the funeral director?  Sorry - clueless!  Funeral is likely to only be 15 people maximum

    Money isn’t the issue btw.
Your Funeral Director should either answer all these questions or provide you with a booklet about it all.

It can be done. I arranged my mum's in 9 days, Saturday > Monday,  but it was very small and early morning so relatives in NZ could watch on the webcast. Later in the day would have been 3 weeks.

We managed to arrange a funeral in 10 days but only because it was during the pandemic and we had a graveside service with just 10 people present including the Priest.

it can be done - there are multiple factors involved - one Xmas eve my friends father died in the morning, they registered the death  that morning (office closed at 1pm) - they arranged burial in chapel plot for about 4 days after Xmas.

later that day my father died, it was then the Xmas 4 day weekend so took 5 days to register the death - he was cremated and that couldn't be until the second week of January as has to coordinate church and crematorium.
  • My friend died on December 4th and his funeral in today (burial).

    RIP dear friend.
    I used to be seven-day-weekend
  • Sorry to hear that there gonna be very empty space during holidays :(
