Hello, I booked a 1 night stay a few weeks ago for next year with an apartment through Expedia (apartment is with Vrbo). Since then all the nearby hotels and apartments are either full or 5 times the price of what I paid.
I received a cancellation this morning for the property, after speaking with the owner they said the property is being sold early next year and is therefore unavailable. The owner apparently told Vrbo and Expedia this a few weeks ago.
Now I can’t afford to book anywhere in the area and had I been told at the start I could have booked somewhere else for a lot cheaper.
What are my rights etc? Vrbo, Expedia and the host are not offering any help with this and now it’s going to be very expensive for me

Unless you went through the contract line by line, amended it to change the terms to provide better rights for yourself in case of cancellation which were then agreed by the other contracting parties your only rights will be a refund.1

Sorry (but not surprised) to hear this - for others, the background to this is on the OP's other thread hereAs daveyjp says, if Expedia and Vbro anre not able to help as a good will gesture, then your only option os to a refund.0

How convenient it's being sold, yet no doubt you can still make a booking around that date or just after.

Full refund only. There is no right to compensation to cover the cost of alternative accommodation.
