Octopus Agile vs Flexible?

So I'm currently on Octopus flexible. I've got one 3.3KwH battery, and 8 x 400w solar panels, facing west, in theory generating around 2000 KwH a year

Is it worth going to Octopus agile when I'm already on their flexible tariff?

I don't yet have an EV too. I do eventually intend on going to Octopus Go for those cheap night time tariffs but that's only when I've got more batteries / an EV

Probably not, the upper limit of the Cap is now £1.00/kWh. Prices for my region:

PS. Have a look at E7 for battery charging.

I can't seem to find their economy seven tariff?

Thanks for that link. This is something I have been looking at over the last couple of days with a view to installing battery storage (have had solar panels since 2011) and maybe switching to Octopus early next year.

I wonder if you know whether the Octopus prices include VAT? I can't find any reference to VAT on that webpage.

FWIW, I switched to Octopus and the price was about the same I paid to British Gas. My switch date was 06th Dec

Yes they do (they match the tariff info on my account) :)
  • We currently have a 'flexible' tariff with octopus.  Friend of ours recently said they were paid to take energy - I assume it's an 'agile' tariff.  My husband is wondering if we should switch.  We do have an EV, but generally charge at work for free.  We have a charger at home but only use if we want a totally full battery for a longer drive, so potentially every couple of weeks.  Am I right in think that we shouldn't switch?

Time-of-use tariffs have both high and lows. Yes, you can be paid to use energy when there are storms around the UK coast and energy supply exceeds demand.

Details of the Agile Import tariff are here:

Agile works well for people who can time shift their main usage to lower cost slots. The peak 4pm-7.30pm slots are always going to be the most expensive so if you tend to use a lot early evenings, it's maybe not for you.

I have solar and a battery. If the sun isn't shining but the wind is blowing I can often fill the battery overnight at cheap rates and use the electric the next day. I'm also happy to run washer/dryer/dishwasher overnight when it's cheaper.

It's a tariff you have to be on top of every day, checking rates and adjusting usage if you want to make the most of it. Again, that sort of thing isn't for everyone, for some of us it's a hobby  ;)

I've got Octopus agile for export only. I'll eventually swap over to Octopus Go for imports too

I believe you can also get "works with Octopus" stuff and import cheaply, whilst exporting at a high price during peak times, automatically. That's kinda cool

It likely goes some way into making a dent big enough, that your gas bills don't seem as pricey (Given you're basically getting paid for the electricity portion)
