Have to turn on HW to get CH working!! Help!

I wonder if any of you nice people might have come across this problem before?

I currently have an Ideal Mini C24 combi boiler, and the heating is set to come on 3 times during the day, the first being at 5.15 am (just as i am getting up!). Now, I can here the timer switch, then the boiler starts its ignition sequence (a whirring sound, don't know if its the fan or pump), but doesn't actually ignite and the power light flashes rapidly indicating an error. No amount of trying the boost button or thermostat will get it to ignite. BUT, if I turn on a hot tap the boiler will fire up, and then turn off the tap the boiler will stay lit for the CH and everything then runs swimmingly (even if the thermo knocks the boiler off it will come back on again when asked to).

The next time the heating wants to come on, the same thing happens, but i don't want to have to turn on a hot tap every time i want the CH heating to come on!!

The only time both CH and HW wouldn't ignite the boiler is around a month ago when we were away for a week and i turned the heating off. When we came back neither would work, although after 10 minutes of turning the hot tap on and off eventually worked.

My plumber (corgi regd) service it a few weeks ago and said he couldn't see anything wrong and is a bit stumped, but did mention the diverter valve but didn't want to cost me a fortune by just changing things on a whim.....can anyone help me out please???

Edit: Forgot to mention that the system pressure is fine!

The flashing light will give you a clue as to the fault , but you need the manual to refer to.
Your corgi may well be right with the diverter , but with his lack of confidence , It might be worth getting someone who is familiar with the boiler (Ideal ?) to look it over.

sometimes all it needs is switch off power to boiler for 10 minutes to reset it
