Barclays Premier Banking Eligibility

I think you might have got the wrong information because you could have confused the names that Barclays give to accounts.

They do have a "basic account" which is for people who aren't eligible for their other accounts - part of the banks' agreement that everyone should have access to banking services.

The "basic account" can't be upgraded. A Barclays branch wouldn't open a "basic account" for someone who was looking open or upgrade to a Premier account.

It's far more likely that you have opened Barclays the everyday ordinary common-or-garden current account which is called "Barclays Bank Account", but if you've referred to it as a "basic account" when you asked about upgrading you'll have been told that a "basic account" can't be upgraded.

Whereas a Barclays Bank Account can be upgraded. Mine was, many years ago, and I still have Premier.

Try asking again without calling your account a "basic account" because that's not what it is.

Eligibility criteria are necessary but not sufficient, i.e. if you don't meet them then you won't get one of these accounts, but even if you do meet them it doesn't follow that you will definitely be accepted.
