Perhaps also worth considering the optics and political ramifications of legislative changes perceived to be enacted for the privileged few, especially in the current environment....
The issue is that its not UK legislation that needs change but multi-national conventions so would flow as fast as frozen treacle.

Inevitably the legislation would cover all classes of travel, though those who've paid most will have more to gain probably (obv depends on the decided method of calculating damages). I'm not sure in that frame its any more or less relevant in the current climate than the Caravan Site Licensing (Exemptions of Motor Homes) Bill or Hereditary Titles (Female Succession) Bill

Yes, agreed, it wouldn't make sense for legislation to deal only with issues arising from business class travel, but that seemed to be the expectation of some of the earlier comments, relating specifically to the perks associated with that class!

And yes, as you say, there are various global conventions as well as the more granular EU and UK regulations, but, as in that other thread linked above, it's certainly possible (and desired by some) for the UK government to do its own thing unilaterally, for flights within its jurisdiction (unlike OP's).
  • Thanks, everyone, it's kind of you to comment.   I'm not going to take it further other than having written to The Times Troubleshooter, albeit with little hope of a response! -  But nothing ventured...
And yes, MobileSaver, if that 10% came back as cash it would be welcome and not unreasonable.
I take the point that any class of booking is multi-faceted and that we all place different priorities on those different facets.  Clearly, it's complicated.   In my stubborn inexperience I just naively feel you should get what you pay for, whatever the class, and - if you don't - should be proportionately compensated in the same way as you have paid.   How to decide that proportion? - This is for more experienced brains than mine to determine... but I wish they would!
The Times Troubleshooter has acknowledged my email, so I shall report back if she has any advice.   Thanks again.
