On the plus side OP at least you managed to find something in Tesco to buy.

Our nearest store is a relatively new building, presumably custom built for them, compared to the next supermarket 5 minutes down the road, no deli, no meat or fish counter, no pizza counter, they have the "baker" section but very limited range.

They had a fridge section of European food, that went recently.

BBC recently reported that Tesco said more shoppers are moving to frozen, the range there is very slim and anything new seems to be the same thing as before in a different box.

We buy a couple of cheap pizzas for the freezer, very handy for our kid if we come home late after a day out, the Tesco Harty Food one is unpleasant, same from Morrisons at same price not bad at all.

Their 24 pack of loo roll are not as soft as those at Asda, we use the yellow washing up sponges with the white pad bit, the Tesco ones fall apart after 5 minutes, the Morrisons ones last well at the same price.

Their meat isn't as nice as other places and Morrisons has a small selection of bones and Ox tail, etc where as Tesco doesn't.

No own brand ketchup in Tesco the last two visits, just Heinz at a stupid price, I wanted some full fat Coca Cola for over the holidays, no 24 packs in store for a long time now, just rows of drinks with sweeteners. They do have bottles but I prefer cans, the smaller packs are too expensive per can.

Hardly any tills in Tesco now as self service takes over, at least Morrisons has those large self service tills where you can load the belt up and fit a weeks worth of shopping on the other side after scanning.

The prices go up each week (they are all guilty of that to be fair) and the choice seems to get less and less.

Shopping in the supermarkets has become boring but it's most noticeable in Tesco.

On the plus side if you want plastic tubs half full of tiny chocolates individually wrapped in foil and plastic at a time when everyone bangs on about saving the planet there are pallets of those available....
In my experience , that could all apply to any of the supermarkets.

Tesco closed deli counters in 90 stores in 2020 and the remaining 317 at the beginning of 2022, Sainsbury's appear to have done the same, I think only Morrisons and Waitrose are interested in running counters now.

Many Tesco stores have scan as you go round, if you do a large weekly shop I think that is the best way anyway, no need to unload onto the till at all.

Sounds like in general you are better going to Morrisons.

Also not sure what the relevance is of the tubs of sweets, they've been available in large quantities at this time of year for 90 years.
When Tesco opened they was about 10% more expensive than Morrisons but now it seems to be the other way around, not sure if that's because Tesco dropped prices or Morrisons went up.

We shop at both plus Lidl and Iceland,  (shopping is a grand day out once a month or so as the shops are so far away), the mention of sweets was the frustration of having to visit a bunch of shops to get a decent selection of fruit, veg, meat and some household items because the supermarkets have created a market place where a few dominate the space but all fail in different regards yet they all appear to manage to be efficient at stocking plenty of rubbish.

Not sure that’s just the supermarkets fault, the entire way that capitalism has gone is that it’s now cheaper to sell mass produced junk food instead of ingredients for people to make it themselves.

Well indeed that is the way that capitalism has gone and the root cause goes well beyond the very basics of blame the supermarkets, my vent is merely at how they are complicit in furthering the problem.
