Barclays do they want customers?

Barclays were also doing this during Covid & beyond. I frequently ended the conversation with "and where are you??"- absolutely nowhere near me. (Barclays switched since the Blue Rewards downgraded)phillw said:
This was something I found weird in my recent santander customer service call, it was answered by a branch in another part of the country. It sounds like someone decided that their branch staff weren't working hard enough.mab3000 said:
But I found it ridiculous that they couldn’t offer appointments until 2-3 months after. The root cause of all this is that in an average branch now, probably about 80% of the staff are taking inbound phone calls now, leaving the other 20% to deal with customers coming into the branch, whereas before Covid branch staff just dealt with people coming into the branch.
It could now be the case that since branches have closed their staff are being redeployed? and maybe more folk are using their telephone banking services....Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I wouldn't touch Barclays with a bargepole. I believe their accounts are or were all app only which put me off as well.0

I had Barclays accounts for over 40 years and have never had their app

Not app based, there is the option for using a branch.subjecttocontract said:I wouldn't touch Barclays with a bargepole. I believe their accounts are or were all app only which put me off as well.
The app is optional, although the staff and general marketing in branch appears to want to push you towards it.

Barclays were fine when the Blue Rewards were really rewards!
I never had the app but banked online- until the old computer caused security problems as I couldn't upgrade Firefox.
Once the rewards were downgraded I moved on
The local branch closed at the start of this yearBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

However, after their recent 'improvements', their online banking became so disfunctional, that I often have to use their app instead for some things. On my PC I keep getting"21414 - We're sorry, something's gone wrong. Please call us on 0345 600 2323."And yes, I tried various browsers, including 'approved' Edge - up-to-date, pristine, without any add-ons/extensions.0 -
Personally I've been a Barclays customer for almost 30 years (starting with a children's account) and I've always been happy with their service, whether online, via the app or in branch.subjecttocontract said:I wouldn't touch Barclays with a bargepole. Same here, 40 years with no issues and I have lived overseas for 20 years. I was asked for proof of address 3 years ago when I moved house, understandable as they can't check. I got a notarised copy of my passport and local ID card and sent by snail mail, all good.Emmia said:

OP, just walk into a branch with sufficient ID and some cash to deposit, they are hardly likely to turn you away. Using an app is not compulsory.......1
