Hi

This is more of a 'techy' question rather than a 'money saving' question, but I hope someone can help:

How can I get notified that someone has left a voicemail on Android!? I dont get notified unless I swipe down. I cant be constantly swiping down on the off chance that I might get a voicemail.

On my iPhone the badge would display on my phone app showing 1, 2 etc (depending on number of voicemails left). Does Android have this?

Thanks

I think it'll be more a question of how your mobile provider issues notifications rather than it being an Android phone issue, I get notifications pushed to my Android phone by my current provider (Virgin Mobile) although I'm about to switch to Smarty so it'll be interesting to see what they do. You might do better to ask the question on the Mobiles board.

The swipe down is just the general notifications. It looks like you have the actual notifications muted. You don't say which phone you have, but, for instance, on a Samsung, look in Sounds and vibrations and make sure that you have sounds set. Use the volume button to make sure notification sounds are turned up.
Check in 'Notification' settings and make sure App icon badges is set to on.

My android phone shows a little symbol like a tape recording symbol at the top of the screen as well as the notification in the swipe down screen.  I'm with O2.

Ive checked the Phone's app settings and the notification settings are greyed out, ie: disabled.  Very odd. :|

Possibly a bit more helpful if you told us what phone you have and which version of Android it's using. Some manufacturers overlay Android with their own software which alters the functionality, so a bit more info may get you a better answer.

here's a list of indicators that appear in the top of the screen - some are tiny and the voicemail one looks like a cassette tape - https://sensorstechforum.com/android-system-icons-list-mean/

Ah yes, I should have said: I have a Samsung 9+ running Android 10.

If I go to Notifications>Phone , this is what I see:

I dont know why Voicemail is greyed-out. Presumably thats where I could set the notification to alert me on the badge theres a voicemail waiting.

That just shows that it's all turned on....
Go to the phones main settings, search 'Voicemail' first result if tapped should take you to 'Call Settings' Scroll down to 'Voicemail' then 'Notifications' You should see if a sound is set and double check 'App icon badges' is checked on.
If all is set correctly you should have sound and icon badges.
Do you get sound for any other notifications?

Hmmmm. This is the screen under Phone>Settings>Voicemail>Voicemail Notifications:

The App icon badges is enabled, and yet I dont see them. Also the Show notification button is disabled(? or is it? Its blue and disabled).

Currently, when I get a voicemail I hear a small beep. If I swipe-down a notification tells me a voicemail has been left. (amongst loads of other notifications from emails, facebook, whatsapp etc).

So.. if Im by my phone I do hear it beep. But I have to then swipe-down to know that a voicemail has been left. However, Im not usually by my phone (I know - shock horror!!) so I never hear it beep. The only way I can see if someone has left a voicemail is if I swipe-down and go through all the notifications and spot a voicemail notification.

On my iPhone - if someone left a voicemail - there would be a badge on the phone app showing a voicemail/missed call. This was very handy! Im sure Androind would have similar. (as the above screenshot's "App icons badges" setting suggests)

You are correct you should have icon badges to indicate Voicemail/missed calls.
    All your settings seem correct.....
Are you using a third party launcher?
The 9+ is no longer supported by Samsung, so, no security updates.
