'upgrade' sim-only --> sim only (Vodafone)
Upgraded though mobiles.co.uk (CPW).
They sent me a new SIM - I have no idea what for.
The enclosed Voda leaflet says "Pop it into your phone and you'll be up and running straight away."
E-mails from Voda say that the new contract starts on Nov 30.
My old SIM still works fine. Tried to replace it with the new one today - and it doesn't work.
Do I really need this new SIM? Why did they send it to me?

They always send out a new sim just in case you have a new phone which didn't take your old sim. It won't work unless you swap your old sim details to it.
Put it to one side and forget it.1
