Viewing night rate on a smart meter

I've just been switched over to a smart meter with Utility Warehouse but I can't see where I go to see both sets off readings for day/night like I could on my old meter. On both the main meter and the In-house display I just see a single kwh number when instead I want to see my separate day/night usage like I could on my old meter.

Does anyone have any suggestions? The meter is a Toshiba EDMI ES-12B if that helps.

Smart meters do not have Day and Night as such. They have 4 registers: your supplier will have configured the meter to use two registers. There is no convention that says R1 is peak and R2 off-peak.

How to read your EDMI SMETS2 meters:

Your EDMI SMETS2 electricity meter should auto-display your meter reading on the main screen (It will revert back to this screen if you do not press any buttons 1 minute).

To take two rate meter readings from your EDMI SMETS2 electricity meter:

    1. Hold OK until it enters the ‘Main Menu’, you will see ‘Billing’ appear
    2. Hold OK to enter the ‘Billing’ sub-menu
    3. Using the arrows, scroll to ‘Advancd’ (2 pushes of the > button)
    4. Hold OK to enter the ‘Advanced’ sub-menu, you will see ‘TOUmtrx’ appear
    5. Hold OK to enter the ‘TOUmatrx’ sub-menu, you will see ‘RATE1’ appear
    6. Use the arrows to cycle the rates you need to submit (Rate 1, Rate 2, …)
  • Yeah, that's one of the strangest meters to read.  Try this:

    1. Hold OK until it enters the ‘Main Menu’, you will see ‘Billing’ appear
    2. Hold OK to enter the ‘Billing’ sub-menu
    3. Using the arrows, scroll to ‘Advanced’ (2 pushes of the > button)
    4. Hold OK to enter the ‘Advanced’ sub-menu, you will see ‘TOUmatrx’ appear
    5. Hold OK to enter the ‘TOUmatrx’ sub-menu, you will see ‘RATE1’ appear
    6. Using the arrows, you should then be able to view both Rate 1 and Rate 2.

You can also use the Hugo app, but it depends on manual entry of times and tarriffs rather than taking 100% accurate data from the meter.

@[Deleted User] Why didn't we go for a system similar to Linky? Life would have been a lot easier for all concerned.

The point that neither of us has made is that smart meters were never designed with manual reading in mind.

The French smart metering system design was run by the DSOs - whereas meters here are a supplier thing - and there is one DSO (now called Enedis) that covers more than 90%/95% of the population.

If everything is pretty much being done by one company, then you don't need to have any "market choice" about which meter(s) to buy - which the French don't really care about but the UK very much do.

The Hugo app shows meter readings?

Thanks guys you got it spot on with that menu run through. I can see values for both rate 1 and rate 2.

It's shame there's no way to know 100% if rate 1 is off peak or on peak rate though, I guess this will become more obvious over time.

Follow up question - Do you know if you can view both rates from the in-house display without me having to go to the garage?

You can also use the Hugo app,
Bright App gets its tariff data from the smart meters. It is a useful way of checking that the correct tariffs have been set and whether IHD costs can be relied upon.

You can check which of the rates advances during the day. Take a reading now and then one this evening.
