Had PHA had your legitimate authorisation to claim tax on your behalf, they would already have had to satisfy themselves of your identity.0 -
I engaged Phillipson Hardwicke after they contacted me re PPI. They informed me my claim was successful and sent me a cheque minus their commission . Only problem was cheque made out was so wrong initials etc my bank would not touch it. After complaining to Philipson Hardwicke I sent them my bank details so they could send it straight to my account. Big mistake when I contact them to ask where my money is they eventually just say with complaints dept. No mention of money, scam comes to mind or at least horrendous service have checked my bank again today still no money. At0

I also engaged with a Philipson Hardwick Advisory 07/02/2023, they contacted me with regards to a PPI claim.
I received a letter from HMRC 11/04/2023 claiming that I had paid too much tax & I was owed £1,668.82 for the year April 2021 to April 2022. The letter said they would send a cheque to TAX RECLAIM PPI LTD with 14 days. It’s been 3 months & I’ve tried calling HMRC after 3 times holding for nearly a hour each time, I tried the chat button but never really got anywhere as it’s a robot !
I looked up the above company & rang the number, line was unobtainable, no longer insists with an answerphone recording in English & then it was translated into Spanish..
I've checked my Gov gateway acct & it’s showing cheque was sent but I haven’t received anything..

According to companies house and the filed accounts, Phillipson hardwick advisory has no employees and just one individual as director. So, it's a one man band.

There was cash in the bank:
But liabilities exceed that
Basically, it looks like a one man band, money in/money out setup with a bounce back loan of 50kI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I have had a letter from HMRC saying they’ve sent a cheque to this company too. Going forward, I want to ensure this company don’t act on my behalf again. Does anyone know how I do this? Do I just inform HMRC not to deal with them anymore?
The letter that I received from HMRC had all of my
PAYE earnings on but also said that I’d had £1100 savings income which I haven’t. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks

Yes, you can ask HMRC to remove them as your agent.0 -

I’m wondering if they are declaring savings income so that tax is paid on it and then making a change to say there was less savings income to instigate a refund. That will go to them! This is how I seem to have been due a refund (that I never received as the cheque went to PHA) I need to check what tax I am paying now.

I think you've got the wrong end of the stick.
PPI refunds aren't taxable and don't have tax deducted from them. But when a PPI refund is made statutory interest is paid alongside the refund and this does have (20%) tax deducted.
As far as HMRC are concerned this interest is just the same as interest received from banks and building societies.
So I suspect they have received a claim which includes PPI related interest (and tax deducted).
Did you receive taxed interest in the tax year the tax refund is for?
If not then it's hard to see why such a claim would be made 🤔0
