Thank you lovely. Your kind words spurred me into action and I made sure I prioritised the job seeking yesterday. Now fingers crossed I at least get an interview.

    Good morning all.

I'm feeling in a much happier place today (I am guessing that it might be because I have three whole days before I am back in the chippy again). Yesterday's shift although a lot shorter than it should have been as the boss closed early was horrific. The boss was his usual finding fault self even though the work all got done and the customers went away with a smile on their faces. I gave him his present yesterday (as he gave me mine the day before). As soon as he opened it he tried to pull off the letter tiles and just kept trying to pick them off for the rest of the night. He didn't even take it home with him - he just left it in the chippy which broke my heart a bit seeing as I put time and effort into lovingly making it for him :( I bet if the other counter staff person would have given him it he would have been raving about it all night. Never mind I have now taken action in looking for another job so fingers crossed I get interviews and ultimately offers asap as I have to be honest I was very close to telling him to stick it yesterday and I don't know how much longer I can go on like this without saying something I might regret.

Hubby is on an early shift today so we are planning to go to the shops and grab our Christmas goodies when he is finished which will hopefully make me feel a bit more organised and ready for the big day itself.

Other than that I've not really got lots planned other than getting orders made and posted, getting the rooms ready for our parents and daughter and wrapping more presents so they are ready and waiting for a week today. I cannot believe that Christmas Day is now only one week away.

     So today I WILL:-
    1. Make mini seed packs ready to go with plantable hearts made yesterday so I can post them off - made just need to post off when I go out :)
    2. Make sewing planner and post off - made just need to post off on way to supermarket :)
    3. Promote business locally to hopefully some last minute Christmas sales (although I never seem to get the support of the locals ever) - posted in one place and got a £24 sale :)
    4. Download some items I purchased earlier in the year ready to use to make new products for 2024 - downloaded another 7 things :)
    5. Play on Mistplay (aiming to cash out a £25 voucher next month) - DONE 207 points today :)
    6. Take a survey on Prime Opinion
    7. List car on Autotrader as having no luck with FB
    8. Sort out upstairs spare bedroom
    9. Sort out downstairs bedroom - bit more sorted. I'm nearly there with this room :)
    10. No heating on other than the times it is set for
    11. List another item on FB Marketplace
    12. Wrap some Christmas presents - 3 more presents wrapped :)
    13. Meal plan for week
    14. Food shopping

Sorry to be incredibly blunt but I do not understand why you would choose to make yourself unhappy and be ill treated by these bosses. I know you have BTL's to pay off but surely even a job at amazon or waitrose /Lidl checkout  would be  a better experience  than this. You are worth being treated well. If this was your daughter what would you say?
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks FlowerPot. I really hope so too. It's such a shame as I loved working there at the start.

You are right. I think my problem is that I have been out of "employed" work for so long having given up to look after our children over 20 years ago and not gone back as hubby used to work away (it just was not practical or cost effective) that I lack the confidence that I will find another position and doubt myself on the skills that I can bring to the table. Also sadly, living were we do I am limited as to the number of places I could work as lots of places are seasonal and close for 6 months of the year or prefer to employ younger people as they do not not have to pay them as much. Norfolk is also a strange place as a lot of people are related so at the supermarkets for example, a lot of the jobs are filled by members of the same family so "outsiders" as they call them here often never get a fair chance so to speak.
I'm also a bit stubborn and hate to quit anything which does not work in my favour often ;)

I have now taken the step to start looking though and applied for two which I have found so fingers crossed I might make it to the interview stage and wow them ;)

    Morning all.

I'm feeling a little more prepared for Christmas than I was yesterday having got some goodies in yesterday and also ordering a couple of gifts for Son off his wish list (which he only got to me late Sunday evening - he clearly thinks Santa pays for express delivery which is totally against MSE'ing!!!!).

I think son and I will be going into the City again today as he has to find his girlfriend a little gift and I could do with picking up a couple more little bits to go under the tree so that will take up most of the day I think and this evening we are off out to Iceland and M&S I think to grab some more buffet type food ready for boxing day so its busy busy busy.

I also really must finish clearing the upstairs bedroom and get all the bedding washed but it bucketing it down here today so I need to move the other washing which is drying so I can just hang it out. I might have to reluctantly use the tumble dryer I think.

Also good news on the gemstone bracelets I bought from the wholesaler - I've sold my first 3 chipstone ones so at least I have managed to recoup a small amount back :) This has to be my focus in the New Year :)

Christmas is now less than a week away - can you believe it?

    So today I WILL:-
    1. Print the display cards for three gemstone bracelets and family print for last minute order and post off - DONE :)
    2. Promote business locally to hopefully some last minute Christmas sales - DONE :)
    3. Download some items I purchased earlier in the year ready to use to make new products for 2024
    4. Play on Mistplay (aiming to cash out a £25 voucher next month) - DONE 52 points earned today :)
    5. Take a survey on Prime Opinion
    6. List car on Autotrader as having no luck with FB
    7. Sort out upstairs spare bedroom
    8. Sort out downstairs bedroom and wash bedding
    9. No heating on other than the times it is set for - DONE :)
    10. List another item on FB Marketplace
    11. Wrap some Christmas presents
    12. Meal plan for week
    13. Food shopping - DONE :)

  • Like you, I have been out of paid employment for about two decades, looking after the home and bringing up and educating the children whilst  OH worked away from home. It was the right decision and I don't regret it for a second but I feel more than a little trepidation in returning to work. I have yet to take the first step.

I'm glad I'm not the only one but I'm so sorry it feels you with dread too.
I don't regret one second of staying at home and looking after our children either - in fact I loved it and really miss it now they are older. It really is terrifying isn't it - things have moved on so much since we were last paid to work and I feel like I am looked down upon because I wasn't working as well as as looking after our kids as we appear to be in a minority. Take things at your on time and maybe, if you want to start going back to work, think about starting your own business if actually working for somebody feels too much at the moment.

Every time I start to build my confidence up it appears there is a chip shop boss there ready to knock it away again but I am determined I will get there and realise that I have valuable skills which I can contribute when I am ready to do so.

Good luck with your journey x
