Pets are such a worry - it's better to be on the safe side
Hope it's not too toasty in the chippy today 🥵1 -
Hi everyone.
Sorry for my absence over the last week.
My father in law passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday and it has left us all in shock and deeply sad. My husband wants us to carry on as normal which is hard so we have still been going to work, college etc but in all honesty being mortgage free is currently the last thing on my mind so although we are still committed to clearing the mortgages as quickly as we can, at the moment I am just focused on living every day as it comes and spending as much time as I can with my loved ones as tomorrow it seems is never guaranteed.
It's also made me think long and hard about striking a balance and living life whilst we still can so when we get back to it I feel like not as much money will be directed at the mortgages and more will be used to enjoy the life we have left xMortgage - £2338.07 paid off Feb 2023 BTL 1 £51,089.10 £35789.36 paid off July 2025 BTL 2 £81,504.52 BTL 3 £77,497.020 -
Oh gosh crafting, im really sorry to hear your sad news. You are absolutely right, we must make the most of everyday.💕 When these things happen it does make us think. I think u are very wise to ensure you spend that wuality time with the family. It's more important than clearing those derbts as far as possible.
Take care x♥️ ♥️ ♥️🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸Decluttering 2025 So far 403 / 2025

Morning all.
Next week is my father in laws funeral so its going to be a very hard day but I have decided to try and have a week of normality this week as I'm sure that is what he would like so I'm going back to my little lists to try and help me to stay focused and actually achieve something.
I have been let go for the winter season from the original chippy with not a word of thanks or an apology that they are keeping others on but not me. I'm not really sure how I feel about it to be honest but I do have one more shift on Friday so I have told them I will want paying for the two days work he owes me (last week and this week) on that last shift. He was not happy about it but I remained firm and will put it in a text to him today as well to ensure I have it in writing what my expectations are. I don't think its fair that I will have to wait nearly two weeks after actually working it (due to boss being on holiday) when it was agreed I would be paid weekly in arrears given that Friday is my official last day. Also I really don't feel like making a special trip in to go and collect my £40 I am owed. Am I right or am I just being argumentative for the sake of it?
Today is also my birthday (although I don't really feel like celebrating) and I have just opened a card from my mum and dad which has £40 inside so I'll pay this in to the OP savings account to help me feel like I've made some small progress this month. It's the best way I can think of using the money for something I want as I really don't need anything and I'm desperately trying to declutter our house so we can have some more space to life to the full.
So here is my little list for today:-- Play on Mistplay - aiming for 50 points - 27 points earned so better than nothing
- Cash in £10 voucher earned on Prime Opinions - DONE £10 transferred into OP savings account
- Pay in chip shop wages from last week and birthday money and transfer into OP savings account
- Check ingredients in cupboard to make brownies to take into work today and buy missing things - DONE had most things in the cupboard so only needed to buy more eggs, chocolate and baking butter
- Scan shopping for Shop and Scan - DONE
- Make brownies - DONE
- Pay off our mortgage as a birthday present to me
- Complete some of an online course included in a membership which runs out in two weeks
- Complete surveys on Prime Opinions
- Complete surveys on Inbox Pounds
- Complete surveys on Panelbase
- Complete a task on OhMyGosh
- Check to see if cheques from Royal Mail claims have cleared - DONE not cleared yet
- Renew FB Marketplace listings
- Declutter 10 items from the house
- Chippy shift at new chippy - DONE

IMHO you are being reasonable about your wages from the chippy. Great idea to send a text to have your expectations in writing.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

is there then 3 BTLs to countdown?I guess you will be using your excess from your mortgage payment to op the first by - the snowball has started
sorry to hear about your loss
shocking behaviour from original chippy - yes definitely get your money before you leaveDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
