Kiwi/Ryanair - flight change but only offering outbound refund

I booked the route Edinburgh > Bologna > Catania, then Catania > Bologna > Knock > Edinburgh
The flight from Knock to Edinburgh was cancelled, alternative routes offered meant either extending the stay (not possible due to other commitments), or shortening it (not worth it as it was only a short break), or were doable but were costing an extra £180pp. All flights are Ryanair. We made the decision to cancel.
That was fine. 6 weeks passed then I only got a small refund, so contacted Kiwi.
Kiwi are saying I can only claim a refund on the return portion of the journey, not the outbound, as per the airlines policy - even though I can't get home on date selected (obviously I'm not going on a trip I cant get home from).
Is this correct? It doesnt seem correct or fair. I feel like I'm being robbed of £300

How many Ryanair reference numbers were you given?0

One for each flight0

Technically you would have been able to insist on a replacement flight for the cancelled leg at no extra cost, but that ship has sailed now, so your entitlement is simply to a full refund for that specific leg, which will obviously be somewhat less than the entire trip, which, as far as Ryanair are concerned, consists of five completely unrelated bookings. By using an intermediary such as Kiwi, they'd perhaps be entitled to deduct a processing fee for handling the refund for you, so check their Ts & Cs....
How far in advance was the flight cancelled?0 -
Ryanair do not offer connecting flights, although you do in theory have a right to a replacement flight for the cancelled sector as soon as reasonably possible.
As these are multiple bookings, as far as Ryanair are concerned only the cancelled one will be refunded. This is fully in line with legislation.
This is always a risk with self-connecting.💙💛 💔0 -
Just to add, I personally advised you in September to not use dodgy and unauthorized third party booking sites, is there any reason why you chose not to follow this advice?💙💛 💔1

Surely both that thread and this one relate to the same booking(s), which had already been made at the time of your advice?CKhalvashi said:Just to add, I personally advised you in September to not use dodgy and unauthorized third party booking sites, is there any reason why you chose not to follow this advice?0 -

This may be the case though. I personally don't tend to book travel that far out though and would be surprised if most do.💙💛 💔0 -
I'd humbly suggest that it's time to back down rather than double down, and to apologise to OP!CKhalvashi said:

The other thread related to a trip booked for late September, and in this one OP refers to six weeks passing before a refund, ahead of further dialogue with Kiwi, so in all likelihood this thread's trip would have been late September or early October.
OP did concede in the other thread that that booking was actually with Kiwi, despite having initially reached them via the Skyscanner comparison site.
I suppose it's possible that OP repeatedly books complex multi-leg trips between Scotland and Sicily with Kiwi but would suggest that this is highly unlikely....1 -

I haven't looked at the other thread so don't know how far in advance the OP was booking. If a person has fixed dates it makes sense to book asap to ensure availability.

on 18 September OP said he 'had booked' so the flights were already booked.
