Check My Group Ltd HMRC refund
Comments
-
Hi,
I have the same problem! An advert on Instagram, led me to believe I was just checking if I was eligible not actually allowing this company to act on my behalf.
I have received an email from Check My Group saying the refund will be with me within 28 days, they don't have my bank details and they didn't mention sending a cheque so I highly doubt I will receive anything? I also had a letter from HMRC stating my refund will be sent by cheque to Check My Group. I emailed them and demanded a copy of "the contract" which they did reply with just the attachment but haven't replied to any of my emails since as I want it in writing that they won't act on my behalf going forward.
I understand on this occasion I have possibly been scammed by my stupidity and have definitely learnt my lesson going forward. How can I go about ensuring they are not able to act on my behalf again? As I'm guessing I won't receive an email back from them.
PLEASE HELP, I was going to call HMRC then read a lot of reviews saying they are unable to help with this.1 -
HMRC - say its out of their control as I gave C.Y G ltd authority to act on my behalf and sent a document with a signature, that doesnt resemble mine, I have no recollection at all of signing up for this.
I've tried phoning but no answer, have sent 2 x emails and now a letter requesting returning my refund & cease from representing me & heard nothing at all from the company.
I understand there is an "L.B.A" required to stop them acting but unable to find out how I get this, without going through a solicitor.
Any help gratefully received.

ATTENTION ALL - YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY FROM CHECK MY GROUP
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO REMOVE THE SCAM
I have been chasing this company for five months now, you can get them on the phone eventually but all they do is give you empty promsies and lame excuses. They are part of a parent company that scam your personal information and send off a form to HMRC falsely claiming you have authorized them to receive your tax rebate or overpayment. HMRC couldn't care less - they are paying out money, not receiving it
They were supposed to pay me by the end of February £58.69, then excuse, excuse, excuse always promising next 28 days. You don't get it, you call up and the same thing happens. I got a call back after sending a complaint e-mail to clientservices@checkmygroup.co.uk and the woman said the reason for no payment was "banking problems" - probably their bank getting suspicious at them trying to shove hundreds of people's tax rebates into their account, but apart from that vague and totally unconvincing. She then said the net amount I would be paid after they deduct their "fees" is £1.50 (thereabouts, under £2 of my £58.69). It sounded like she was trying to stop herself laughing but I couldn't be sure.
Apparently you are supposed to have signed up to a financial service. Yet you will not have received a Welcome Pack, phone call or acknowledgement e-mail just as I didn't. Now rill you have received any service. You've been hacked and scammed. What that service is they will not say, but you have agreed to these fees. You have agreed to give all but £1 of anything you are owed by any authority. Obviously you haven't but that's their claim. They are scam artists, pure and simple. They do this brazenly because Britain is the only country where laws are so lax you can get away with it - even operating staff, premises, website and submitting fraudulent forms to the tax office if you please!
THINGS YOU NEED TO DO IMMEDIATELY:
1. To stop the scam repeating you have to write off twice - once to
Pay As You Earn and S|elf Assessment
HM Revenue and Customs
BX9 1AS
and to Check My Group who say (probably won't) that they will send you a form to fill out to annull the "service" and you must fill it out in order for the service you allegedly agreed to to be annulled. Otherwise they will carry on trying. Plus you do not want these filthy rats keeping hold of your details.
2. SIGN UP TO A VPN TODAY to stop people like this hacking your personal info. I was loaded up on McAfee but it wasn't enough - you need to make your IP address completely invisible.
3. DO A FULL AUDIT ON YOUR PC AND INTERNET SECURITY
If you have been a victim of Check My Group - you are not sufficiently tight on your computer and internet security. Sort it out NOW0 -
Spoke to HMRC and they said to report to action Fraud who have asked everyone to report it, the more the better.
These people keep telling me a bank issue is stopping my check and they have had my money for 4 months0 -
Hi all, Yeah I too been done.
No idea how I guess I must have clicked on an add somewhere.
Not sure if it helps anyone but I had a good chat with the lady at Action Fraud.
She advised that check my group is well known to them.
She told me that they would have needed to have sent HMRC a deed of assignment (i guess our signature)
She also mentioned they would have needed to send me a welcome pack and they could not have done what they did legally unless they verified my ID.
She also advised that they either got my info cause I requested their services,
I clicked on an ad not understanding that i was signing up to a service or
they just outright bought the data from somewhere.
I spoke to HMRC after and advised them of my crime number but I also asked them for a copy of the deed of assignment they were sent.
The agent went off for a while and came back and has escalated my case. I am supposedly receiving a call from a technician at some point and am hoping I can at least make sure they are no longer associated with my account.
I have also spoken with check my group on {Removed by Forum Team} and even got an escalation.
They had no answers and told me they would send me the info i have requested.
ALso said they could speed up the payment if I signed something.
Considering they have had my chequeu since December I thought that a massive red flag!
Been on the phone for most of today and I am so annoyed I got done this way.
ALways telling my mum and dad to watch out for refund scammers0 -
I had the same problem and only found out when HMRC sent me a letter that they paid them on my behalf
after several months of trying to reach them and getting nowhere, I decided to use "Money Claims" and issued them with a small claims writ, and within a month they settled in full,

OMG there sister company just sent me an email. I am sure everyone in this post must have one. I f you have all given them as hard a time as me that must mean a breach of GDPR surely. I threw it at them yesterday and they were really slow to respond which is unusual and there response was based around being unable to delete my records.
Fair enough but considering i forwarding them there sister companies email asking them why they broke GDPR and what there legal basis was for transferring my imnformation to their sister company considering i am in dispute with them how they received it. Honestly think I have them. I will let you know. But anyone else has that email I suggest you do the same.

I’ve been caught in this one too. I have no idea who this company is and never made a claim with them. I tried the telephone number but it no longer works. Anyone have a different number. I looked on companies house and they are still trading.0
