Hi all I’ve tested positive this morning and told I have to stay at home for 5 days and it will go down as Ill.
luckily I am not unwell and don’t agree with this being marked as I’ll as this will go on my record.
any advice please? I can do some work from home so should I suggest that? Do they have to accept it? We have a very unreasonable hr department!!

Rules are rules so you have to suck it up and thank your lucky stars you don't live in China4

It really is up to your employer but there’s no harm in suggesting they’re working from home option if there is enough work that you are able to do from home and seeing what they say.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -

why did you test? is it part of work policy?0

You are ill, you have COVID.Being symptomatic or not isn’t the same as being ill - if you’re playing host to a virus and can spread it, you’re ill and it’ll rightly be marked down as such.3

My company has a policy of encouraging people to work from home but accept that they cannot force you to go off sick and cannot force you to isolate.
I'd certainly suggest remote working if that is possible, although I'm also wondering why you were testing.0 -

We work with some vulnerable people and have tight deadlines to meet with international travel requirements for some clients. Any delay in this could cost us more than someone being off due to their illness.
We will accept working from home though and have facilities in place for the majority of work to be fully remote for most staff.💙💛 💔2 -
Unless I misunderstood, the OP wasn't asking to go into their workplace. They were hoping to work from home and not have 5 days sickness added to their employment record because a cheap and fallible device tells them they're ill when they feel fine.Unfortunately, we have no idea how flexible, or otherwise, their employer will be.1

Also, OP would have been well back to work by now going by the dates- why post at all?3
