Edf smart metre

Edf fitted smart metre in December 2021 worked fine for 2 months thenbit stopped working
Over the following 6 months had 4 visits from engineers not could get the smart metre to give gas readings.
Eventually las engineer said you need a new gas metre.
Edf refused to fit a new metre and told me to complain to ombudsman
He eventuwlly came back with a ruling saying it was a national problem ????
Appealed his version and sent pictures showing the metre with no readings just blank
Sent him evidence showing that Edf are showing on my account that they have no readings and are estimating my usage
He replied its a national problem
So am i getting my gas for free ?
Any help would be appreciated

    Welcome to the forum.

As there's a question as well as an (understandable) rant in there, you may be better off posting over on the energy board, where someone might be familiar with the problem.

I know that there are issues with some smart meters not transmitting readings to the supplier, but even so you should at least be able to take your own readings, either from the smart meter monitor or from the meter itself, so that you can give them to the supplier to avoid getting an estimated bill. I'm pretty confident that you're not getting your gas for free....

Yeah the response that its a national problem appears to suggest its the gas meter not communicating with your electric smart meter that is the issue, not that the gas meter is faulty.

In which case, go and look at the gas meter (not the wee in house display unit you have inside your house that shows you how much energy you are using), and press some buttons on it to bring it to life, the screen should light up and show a reading. If that works, all you need to do is take the reading once a month and submit it to EDF, and you'll stop getting estimated bill.

As p00sticks says, you will not be getting your gas for free, they will continue to estimate your usage and bill you on it, unless you give them the readings yourself.

The annoying thing you'll find, though (if EDF is anything like British Gas) is that because the company now thinks you have a smart meter, there is no way to simply submit a meter reading online to your account anymore, and you'll have to physically talk to someone eithe via phone or online chat to pass on the reading.
Been there, got the t-shirt ;-)

Even if you have a smart meter, EDF allow customers to ender readings via their online My Account or smartphone app.
