Mt toshiba R390 runs a series 3 cpu of the i5 variant. I use linux because i had enough of windows and paying for TPM laptop, that had a non depreciated graphics chip, forking out hundreds, and otherwise not gaining any benefit was a deal breaker.

A happy mint use for over a year, with no problems either. Although my new hand me downs from work are i7 series 6 cpu, also with windows key on a sticker, they too will be converted to Mint. Wine does support directx 9, and before writing off your laptop give it a try as it costs you nothing
To be fair I think that might all be a bit advanced for the OP (no offence to the OP  ) That's probably double dutch to many regular Windows users here. You're right that there are alternatives, and they can be beneficial over Windows by quite a margin, but Windows is what most people (Non-Mac) are used to, and likely wouldn't go to the trouble of installing a new operating system, but you're certainly right to mention that there other options out there other than Microsoft.

There are some annoyances with Windows 11 especially where options have been moved after being in the same place in Windows for years, but overall it is a solid, if not essential upgrade.

I upgraded one Dell laptop and it took to it fine but I had problem with an Asus laptop so took that back to Windows 10.

Your thread title doesn't go with your post.

Do you need it? No, I wouldn't say so.

Will you eventually end up with a W11 machine? Eventually is a long time. Providing you're not taken out by a bus or something else then probably would be the answer.
