You're guessing what might have happened.  I'm stating what has....barclaycard were not going to pay the £20 credit on a product they said they would as long the relevant T&C's were complied with.  so what would you call that?
Yes, because you ignored the question on if they ever told you what the technical team had said that the agent didn't understand.

I dont think it's just Barclays but a large number of banks that could be much better at being clear exactly what product you have been accepted for. They tell you the limit and APR but rarely much more... I had a similar issue a while back when AmEx offered a credit card that could collect MR points (back when Gold/Platinum etc were chargecards) but after applying I randomly got given a cashback card instead.

They, like Barclays, quickly rectified the issue on complaint. Given this was a Barclay's offered cashback rather than MSE offering it directly out their commission (like Quidco are) then Barclays could and should have shown that the accepted product was different to the applied one however they had already admitted that short falling and compensated you for it.
  • I have also not received the £20 cashback on my account despite having fulfilled all required conditions on 10 November 2022. The Barclays representative I spoke with did not know about the offer. I referred her to the MSE website and also raised a complaint. I am still waiting for a definitive response. In the meantime I have checked Barclaycard’s own website. The same offer is shown there!

To those who believe its a tracking cookie issue I would say the following - The product that the £20 offer applies to is the Barclaycard Platinum Purchase card...the offer on that card is explicit - for those individuals who make a puchase over £250 on that card within the first 90 days of receiving it qualify for a £20 credit.....that is it, no more no less.

The cookies you refer to flag the product, i.e Platinum Purchase....cookies cannot know when and if you have made a qualifying purchase for the £20 credit....that is down to some business process or logic that is applied afterwards.  Not all customers who obtain the platinum purchase card will necessarily make a purchase of >£250 within the first 90 days thus will not qualify.

I have the Platinum Purchase Card....there is not a different "platinum purchase card with a £250 qualifying spend" variant of that card, thus the 'cookies' argument holds no water.

I will re-iterate a final time...cookies may determine what product you get....but only if there is more than one product on offer.  There is only one platinum purchase card...it is this card (and ONLY this card) that advertises the £20 credit.  Cookies will not and do not know if you have qualified under the cards T&C's for the qualifying credit.  Some business process or logic will pick this up, presumably as part of a daily sweep or overnight batch/report.

Anyone who has the Platinum Purchase card and has made a qualifying purchase but not received their £20 credit should contact Barclaycard customer Services and register a formal complaint:

It's a pity you never got to hear what the agent didn't understand, it is likely to have explained a lot.

I'm not sure on what grounds you are saying that there is only one "purchase card"... if its because they only advertise one on their website that is poor grounds to make that assumption on... wouldnt even trust it if its because a telephone agent told you so. There are at least 3 AmEx cards that you will never see on their website and they are just the ones I know of as an outsider.

As they appear to have explained to you, you were allocated one of these products that you say doesn't exist that doesn't have the £20 offer. That wouldnt have been clear to you which is why you rightfully had the monies reinstated. What they didn't explain to you is why they allocated a different product than the one you applied for. Normally its a credit rating thing and so you apply for 24 months interest free but get given a 12 month interest free (personally had that once even no 12 month card was available to apply for on the banks site).

On this case I doubt the £20 promo is linked to credit history so either you have failed to mention you already have a Barclaycard (which is an exclusion in the terms) or the second most probable reason would be to do with advertising links.

I agree - there's a chance that the OP didn't quite get the card they applied for (they might have done - but it's 'possible' they didn't) Many card providers often offer a 'different' card when approved that might very well have the same fascia, but a different interest rate for example.

One additional thing that hasn't been mentioned is what purchase was made to break through the £250 spend, as any 'cash-type' purchases are excluded - and that can cover quite a number of things that customers don't always associate with a cash purchase - e.g. paying certain fees.

Things do go wrong, and in this case Barclaycard have put it right. It shouldn't have happened. It did. They fixed it. If there's a huge flurry of posters all saying the same thing in the coming weeks, it'll evidence a clear problem, but as re-iterated, it's certainly not a SCAM.

I am afraid, your understanding of tracking cookies is not fully correct, as Amex have dimostrare e over the years.

for example you can apply and get accepted for exactly the same card but get different promotion after achieving a targeted spend depending on the referral links that you originally used to apply. This is because the original link that was used to obtain the card will have creased a secondary records onto the account that is then used when targeted spend is achieved. This will result for example in someone opening the account receiving only 20,000 MR point after spending £3k in the first three months, but someone that opened the same card product with a referral link (and associated tracking cookies) getting 23,000 MR point after achieving the same target spend.

Thus, although the cookies used at the time of application “cannot” know as you say when you would have spent £250, they were used to create a record into your account that was indeed used later at the time of you meeting the £250 spend.

@Sinistercr0c hi, I have also found myself in the same predicament as yourself. Going through the chat agent they say no offer has been available of this type since the start of 2022.

I have asked to speak to complaints but they just say they will note my dissatisfaction and pass it on.

Is there anywhere on the Barclaycard website that states the offer was available until the 30/11 I have the screenshot from the MSE website.

I have the platinum card also.

that is not necessarily correct, I got a platinum card in August 2022, and received a £20 credit in november 2022

The customer service is terrible I’ve never received anything like it from a bank before.

They are now saying take it up with MSE as the last offer of £20 credit was January 2022, I have print screened all the correspondence from Barclays as yourself and a few others I have spoken to received the £20 credit so it makes no sense.

I finally managed to get a complaint raised today but it was closed straight away with it being in the banks Favour, I will receive a letter of this outcome… what a waste of time and effort!!
