The next election will be in 2024 (latest), not 2023.
Could even be as late as January 2025, although that's unlikely.
If the Tories know they are going to lose (and they probably are) then they will hold the election at the last possible moment so I would say January 2025 is more than likely.
i dont know. it's normally in may and next year that would be around the same time as the corination so maybe some positive feeling they would want to tie into. keep losses to as little as possible even if they dont think they can win outright.

the tories voters tend to be older. holding it in jan means its cold and dark and probably wet. older voters are less likely to turn out maybe? tho i guess postal voting might be a more important thing.

but thats why i was thinking it would be spring/summer 2023 (so could be a reason for them giving something over winter 22/23 'because there sensible money management has gone so well')
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

Based on previous activity - the current government will probably just re-write the law so they don't have to have an election till they want one...

They didn't seem to have that much of a problem getting their vote out on a winter's day at the last general election in December 2019, and here is a House of Commons report on the impact of weather on general election turnout.

That would be one of the few bills that even the majority of Conservatives would refuse to vote for, the Lords would fight it and I very much doubt Charles would sign it into law, it would be at the level of a constitutional crisis that would entirely justify the monarch dissolving Parliament.
