Fibre broadband and WIFI speed

I have had FTTP installed: 900 download and 100 upload. This performs well on my PC.

But my WIFI speeds are as follows:

5GHz: 260 Mbps download measured at the router declining to 6 Mbps in parts of the house
2.4 GHz 70 Mbps download measured at the router declining to 20 Mbps in part of the house

Should the WIFI speed be better than this?
I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

Wi-Fi speeds are heavily dependant on the distance to the Wi-Fi source, the construction of the building, what is between the device and the Wi-Fi source, what other signals that use the same spectrum as the Wi-Fi are around you (interference), what Wi-Fi channels you are using, the antennas on the Wi-Fi source and receiving device, what Wi-Fi versions are being used (both transmitter and receiver have to use the same version so if one of them doesn't have the capability of the fastest version you will be limited to a slower version they both support).

The speeds you have measured are not particularly out of the ordinary.

To try and improve the speeds the first thing to do is get a Wi-Fi analyser app for your phone and use it while wandering around your house.  See what Wi-Fi channels are in use by networks from your neighbours and set your equipment to use a channel that appears to be less congested.

Use wired connections when possible as they will be faster.

A lot also depends on what speed tester your using.

I use the BT and Thinkbroadband testers that seem fairly reliable. Also what are you measuring with, your phone or the actual PC/laptop?

Thank you. I am using the app FRITZ!App WLAN which measures the speed in Mbit/s and the signal strength in dBm as I walk around the house.

Thank you. I am using FRITZ!App WLAN. You think that the speeds are not out of the ordinary: perhaps my expectations are too high. I thought that the WIFI performance would improve in moving from copper to Fibre 900/100, but it doesn't. Anyway, after a long discussion with my ISP, they are going to replace my Fritz!Box.

It will also depend on what WiFi protocols both your router and computer/mobile etc support (a, b, g, n, ac, ax etc)

Not sure about your choice of app though... apps I normally use show about 600-700Mbps on my AX phone and laptop when on wifi and in the same room as the router whereas the app you mention you are using only shows 200Mbps

Fibre speed & WiFi speed are not connected to each other.
E.G. I have 150Mb FTTP. My tablet connects to my router via WiFi at 433Mb/s

Unless you have all "modern" devices using wifi 5/6 (802.11 ac/ax) you won't see anything like the 900Mbs.

I would have expected the higher speed. Here the 'phone with the Fritz app displayed while sitting on the router.

I'd suggest trying another app first... I dont know why it's under reporting my router's speed and real world file transfers show its faster than the 200mbps its reporting.

Being directly on the router may not be the best place to test either... probably a foot or two away is better.

Thank you. I am not sure that I wholly understand. I have performed a speed test on my computer which is connected to my router by ethernet and I get 923 mb/s. On WIFI at the router, I get 70 mb/s for 2.4 GHz and 260 mb/s.
