LPG connection to home needs upgrade to 22mm pipe.

Just moved into LPG property and the very old boiler has packed up. Old owners had it repaired day after we moved in but went again 2 days later , engineer has now written it off. We want to install a combi boiler which I'm told needs 22mm pipe for gas supply. Currently the pipe work from the storage tank runs to the side of the garage where there's a stop tap. From here 15mm copper pipe work goes back under ground about 7m to the corner of the house. It then reduces down to 10mm pipe running a further 5m along outside wall . My question is am I responsible for upgrading the total run of pipe work from the stop tap to 22mm or is my supplier responsible for the under ground part terminating at the house? Thanks for any replies

I expect you will have to pay for any work to the pipework from the tank to the property.

    Including upgrading from metal.

A quick check with the supplier will confirm who owns the pipework from the tank to the property.

  • Maybe other boiler models will be okay with the 15mm pipe work?

Combi boilers normally require at least a 22mm pipe, as they have a higher gas requirement.  The smallest combi I have seen was 23kW, and 24kW to 30kW is common.  It's because they have to work as instant water heaters, while traditional boilers can be lower powered as they can take as long as it needs to heat a tank of water.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
