Cadent being your supplier suggests to me that you might be on a district heating network - or do you have your own gas boiler? If the former then heating and hot water charges will likely be paid to the property management company - have you been in touch with them?
Cadent are the gas distributor for the north west, midlands and east of England.

I’d be inclined to go back to Utilita and tell them that they ARE supplying your gas, and that you’d like to pay them. Put it in writing, possibly with a screenshot of the confirmation from the website you’ve checked above. Then see what they say.

Who did you give your readings to when you moved in?  And why did you think you were with British Gas?

Oops, misread the OP's response - ignore me!
  • You’ve got two threads on this haven’t you - I’ll suggest a merge to keep info in the same place.

  • I was told this by the house supplier whom I am in shared ownership with.  I was told Utilita supply elec and they do. British Gas supplied gas.  I contacted British Gas to set up account and they had no record of my meter being supplied by them.  Utilita have told me they don't supply the gas.  I have just been told my meter has not been registered on the national databas.  How do I contact the national database and why should I be doing this?  baffled

    You don't.

I'd be kicking Utilita at this point - the British Gas thing sounds like a red herring (perhaps a failed switch?)
  • Will check in later and thank you all for your help.  will call utilita later.

    Time passes.

Your developer or its agent should be in contact with the relevant new connections team. For example, Scottish Power Energy Networks fitted my electricity supply and Scottish Power Retail New Connections registered the meter. Billing starts from this point.
