SMARTY 5G

All new Smarty sims/plans are 5G ready. I'm sure an MSE staffer will be along soon to confirm that the site needs some TLC.1

Thanks for the confirmation. I won't hold my breath waiting for a MSE update, but if they do want to bring that page up to date can I also suggest that they review the use of INFO text, which for Virgin Mobile is not correct (you also have to include your date of birth).

The MSE SIM-only guide states that SMARTY doesn't offer 5G, but that's contradicted by the 12GB entry in the list which says it does. The SMARTY website indicates that they do offer 5G (although their list of 5G enabled phones is wildly out of date) so can I take it that the MSE guide has not been properly updated?
Which guide are you looking at? We've been aware that Smarty offers 5G for some time now.
All the Smarty deals listed in our Cheap Mobile Finder are listed as 5G ready: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheap-mobile-finder/
Hope you can help so we can get whatever it is you've seen corrected ASAP.
Thanks,

Thanks @MSE_Chris, as it happens the deal I was looking at (which I think was 12GB for £4) has gone but I found another one on the SMARTY website for 8GB at £7 per month but with the data doubled to 16GB for 15 months, so still a saving on my Virgin Mobile rate of 2GB for £11 and no 5G!

MSE Chrischeck how much you'd be charged by sending a text with the word 'INFO' to 85075."Virgin Mobile require you to sent INFO followed by your date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy) and as these are chargeable messages having the incorrect information means 2 lots of charges before getting it right.Just for info, texts sent 65075, 75075 and 85075 are not chargeable, they are free texts.
https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom/latest/features-and-news/text-to-switch-simple-to-switch-mobile-networkMobile customers can leave their network by sending a simple, free text message, under new Ofcom rules.
Previously if you wanted to switch mobile network and keep your phone number, you usually needed to call your provider to ask for your porting authorisation code (PAC). This is the number you need to give to a new provider for the switching process to take place.
However, when calling their provider, customers were often frustrated by their unwanted attempts to persuade them to stay.
Our new ‘text-to-switch’ process makes it quicker and easier to leave your mobile company, by giving you more control over how much contact you have with your existing provider.

Thanks, I think I had a notification that the text might be chargeable before I sent it, but it's clear from what you've provided that in this case there is no charge.

That's dual SIM phone.
I would get a PAYG for the main number.
RWG would be an ok choice that can be run free after an initial £5|£15.
Then add a cheap SIM like the 15GB Lebara 84p month for 6 months and swap that to a new deal after 6m.0 -

I might look into a second SIM at some point in the future but for now I just want one that I can port my number to and that allows me to use the 5G capability of my new phone, which means using Three where I live, which is why I've bought from SMARTY. I had hoped the new SIM would arrive today (posted first class yesterday) but it hasn't and with RM strikes tomorrow and Thursday I probably won't get it until Friday now1
