BA0239 29 Jun 22 FLIGHT DELAY

Hi all,  This flight was delayed by 24 hours and BA are giving me the 'everybody else is at fault' approach.   Before I spend hours tackling them has anyone else tried and succeeded?    Must have been 2-300 people on board ?

If you're looking to 'tackle them' on the basis of an expectation of compensation, what reason do they give for the delay and to what extent do you believe that it's something else?

Did they provide or fund accommodation, meals, etc?
  • Hi Eskbanker - BA claim that the flight was delayed by HAL (Heathrow Airport Ltd) resourcing issues which subsequently caused Boston to not give clearance due to the night jet ban.  All true, but the flight was then only rescheduled for take-off at 16.30 the next day, when further delays occurred resulting in the flight arriving in Boston some 24 hours late.  No meals, accommodation were offered at any stage.
It seems to me that if the flight had been rescheduled for the next morning and had taken off then I might have accepted the issue to be out of their control but even their rescheduled flight was delayed in take-off by over four hours.
I don't believe I'm being unreasonable but would welcome your comment ?

It does sound like there's room for challenge there, given the likely range of contributory factors - were they more specific about which HAL resourcing issues they're citing, and how much delay that was directly responsible for?

I wasn't aware of a Boston 'night jet ban' and just looked it up, finding https://www.massport.com/logan-airport/about-logan/noise-abatement/faqs/:

Does Logan Airport close down at night?

Like most commercial airports in the US, Logan Airport operates 24 hours per day 365 days per year. There is no nighttime curfew at Logan. The FAA and Massport have developed a preferred over the water procedure during late night hours. This procedure places aircraft over Boston Harbor as much as possible, wind and weather permitting.

and if there were further delays later on, have they made any effort to explain these?

In terms of accommodation, food, etc, they're obliged to provide these regardless of the cause of delays - presumably you were already checked in at the airport when this all started?
