Are you on Monthly Whole Bill DD with EDF?

  • Just checked my account again and on meter readings tab it now says - "wait for notification".  Does seem like we are keeping people in jobs!

Nice to read here that other people are going over to Whole Amount Billing - perhaps we can start the energy revolution whereby suppliers are compelled to give people the choice of how they manage their finances - or have them managed for them if they prefer.
  • So thought I'd check my account,  as I've said this is my first whole amount month (arranged 10th Nov).

My DD was normally 1st monthly,  last one 1st November.  For some reason this seems to have been changed,  next one is saying due 27th Dec. (That'll be nearly 2 months with no payment).

It's also telling me to submit a reading anytime between 25th Nov and 22nd Dec.

Is this all sounding correct - why is there almost a month in which to submit a reading,  should I leave it to as near to my new DD date - how near?

Should I wait for an email?

Oh well at least 2 of us are confused.com!  This rather strange date range is what prompted me to start this discussion, as to submit a reading by 28th November (as was speciified on my account yesterday) to be billed on 1st December seemed short notice.  It is normal for DDs to be applied for about 5 working days before the actual date they are taken.

Going back to SSE I actually got emails from them on 10th November which said "thank you for your DD payments which we received on the 14th".  Left hand/right hand - never the twain shall meet.  This is the stuff of a TV comedy, or perhaps more appropriately a farce!

we arent variable dd but we take readings monthly anyway and if i saw that i'd probably give a reading on the 25 nov and again on the 22nd dec (because it doesn't hurt and it helps make sure the account usage shows what i've used in each month if i ever want to check for any reason)

but as we arent variable i dont know if that wold just confuse things...

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

The way EDF work is that they have a billing window of around 4 weeks when you can submit your reading & be billed. If you don’t give a reading by the last date given your standard payment amount (SPA) will be taken approximately 3 days later. If you give a reading then a bill will be created up to the date of the reading and the money taken 14 days after the bill date. It will say on the bill the date it will be taken. Your account needs to show as live on their system for this to work & although everything may show on your online account, it may not necessarily be live on their system.

Thank you, that's really helpful - so they sent me an up to date bill when I arranged this on 10th Nov.  So going by your info I'll submit readings on 10th Dec and this should give me one month's usage/ bill which was what I wanted.  Job done - fingers crossed!

From my own personal experience, when I switched over to Direct Debit Whole Amount (Monthly) on 21st September EDF generated an estimated bill and when I submitted my usual reading on the last day of the month I received a new up-to-date bill which replaced the earlier estimated one. In October I submitted a reading on the last day of the month and my bill was generated and ready to view the day after.
  • Update as I started this query and there did seem to be several differing experiences of the time scales in the responses.  Not to say my account is a model example of course.

I officially joined EDF on 15th November.  They credited my account with £67 on 1st December and then deducted that from my default DD payment due on 3rd January.  However on 15th December they asked me (by email) to provide readings.  Today I got notification that my bill was ready.  Went into my account and they have updated the amount payable to the figure I had calculated for myself and will take the whole amount DD for this on 6th January.  I assume this is caused by holidays meaning the 14 days working days notice required for a DD is delayed from the 3rd.  I wonder what date the next £67 will hit my account . . . . if they amend the bill amount before the 6th they will end up owing me!

I now anticipate they will ask me on the 15th of each month for my readings.  If they don't they will get them anyway!  Very satisfied with the outcome of switching from SSE/OVO to EDF.  It feels good to be back in control of my energy expenditure.
  • The next support payment should be credited to your account on the 1st of January.

It will not amend your current bill so expect the amount already notified in the bill to be taken.

As DD processing starts a few days before it is taken, your EDF online account will often show a zero balance once that process starts and before the funds leave your bank account.

Indeed - I would expect the application for the DD to be made on 3rd January.  My comment regarding the £67 credit was a throwaway line.  I don't particularly want to see it being deducted until the next bill.  The whole bill payment on 6th is half what the Fixed DD would have been so I am a happy bunny knowing I will have paid in full for the energy I have used & I have ££ set aside to pay the next bill.
