Dream World travel - booking still live but no eticket number

Options
I have bought tickets to fly to Brazil in December (just flights) but found out that the travel agent has gone bust - Dream World Travel. I can see information on what to do by following the instructions on DWT website and also here on MSE which was posted in August 2022. I only found out that the travel agent had gone bust now in November as we had no communication from the travel agents and we still have online bookings appearing on the airline website. We have booking references and appear on the airline booking management system. The only thing not appearing is the ticket information. The airlines (British Airways and Virgin Atlantic) are directing us back to the travel agents but of course it is no longer operating, so we can't do that. My questions are: 1) is it possible to still have a valid booking completed in May 2022 now if the airline has not received the payment? We paid the travel agent in full in May and we still have the booking appearing online now in November 2022 and are due to travel Dec 2022. 2) if no ticket number was issued in error can this be rectified (knowing we are unable to contact Dream World Travel) or is the only way out to get a refund? All travel agents seem to think we can travel looking at our bookings (other experienced travel agents we were seeking support from) but the airline is saying we need the e-ticket? What can we do? We are ATOL protected but if we can travel, I'd rather do that as it is to visit family we have not seen since 2019 and we are taking my daughter to see her elderly grandparents. Thanks

If the booking was paid (to the airline) and ticketed then you should be good to fly.

I suggest accessing your booking record on the airline site to see if you can print off an e-ticket.  This will be more like a travel itinerary but you are looking for a a string of number. I think 10 digits long. This would be the e-ticket. BA ones start 125 and Virgin Atlantic 932.

If you are unable to do this then call each airline and ask them to check your PNR to see if “ticketed” and what e-ticket number is within the records.

If still struggling after that, and if this was an ATOL protected sale, then I suggest contacting the CAA’s ATOL team - https://www.caa.co.uk/atol-protection/make-an-atol-claim/making-an-atol-claim/

I am sorry to say the chances of the booking having been ticketed are incredibly slim. The first creditors meeting is next week when more will become apparent but the latest figure from the CAA show more than 14000 bookings outstanding, despite only having a licence to book 4400. Claims are already above £4 million against the CAA. The only bookings that may have been ticketed are those bought from other agencies, and in most cases, they did not get an ATOL Certificate.

As Westin has suggested, contact the airlines but if you have no e-ticket, I fear you won't be flying

The website says that if you have purchased a ticket but don't actually have a ticket, then you won't be given one. That seems pretty final, so I guess you'll be making a claim.
  • If you paid by credit card then contact your issuer/bank. They might be able to at least recover the money.

Debit, credit or charge card... this will be a chargeback and so card type is irrelevant.
