BT Charges for Old equipment

I returned mine to BT in the free packaging and using the free label. There was no pressure or tight timescale. We dropped it off at the post office next time we were passing. 

Within a few days we received a very polite email from BT acknowledging receipt and thanking us for sending it back. 

I was happy to think it might be of use to someone somewhere ( even as components) rather than going in the bin.

Returned a BT router via post office counter staff who were bemused. Reason for moving from BT no fibre for four years against. No response from BT on whether they ever received the old router.

was it packed and labelled or did you just hand over the router. BT and the Post Office are two entirely different organisations and therefore the PO wouldn't know what to do with it unless it was packed and had an address label.
