Fraud?

I received an email this morning in my inbox, about a Walmart credit card application. From first glance, it just looked like a phishing email, and I was going to delete it.
I then realised it had my real name on it (Although with my names the wrong way around). I checked the domain WHOIS and it belongs to GE Money.
I can't view the application status, because it asks for the last 4 digits of my social security number and zip code, and I'm not American!
Any advise on what I should do?

  • and it'd be a good idea to report the domain to GE aswell.
  • This isn't a phishing email, the domain it links to DOES belong to GE, and it has my real name on it.

But it wasn't you that applied was it? Someone probably found your email address somewhere and applied in your name. Just delete it if you didn't apply for it. These things happen all the time.
  • Have you checked the header information?
  • Yes, it was sent from a Java application at creditapplyonline.com, which also belongs to GE.

Why not contact GE and let them decide what to do with it:

    Phishy E-Mail?

If you think you received a GE Money E-Mail that wasn’t from us, please forward to emailspoof@ge.com.

Please don’t type or change the subject line upon forwarding and delete it from your inbox. Although we will not respond to your inquiry, we will immediately investigate.

I get e-mails like this all the time - "thanks you for your application" type of thing - some are woefully slipshod efforts some are very convincing; I used to go to the trouble of tracking a contact e-mail for that company and forwarding the message on but now I don't even open them. Once you send an e-mail, with your name attached, you've got no control over where that information will end up.
  • I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall here.

THIS WAS NOT A PHISHING OR SPOOF EMAIL, THIS WAS SENT BY GE MONEY
