I have just tried to get the offer on iPhone 13.. £49 upfront £29 per month.. I have tried twice with two different credit cards which were declined , then with my debit card which I Santander asked to authorise it.. but it requested 0.00GB ..
bank said with it been 0.00 it’s more likely to be a scam? So I was frightened to authorise it? Can you help as I was really excited about the deal..

The £0.00 authorisation is simply an ID check that ensures the correct details are being used. If you know you are in the middle of a transaction with the company why on earth would you then think it's a scam?

Presumably because they have never heard of A1 Comms Limited who are the company doing the deal and the fact the banks havent allowed the transaction to go through have spooked them that maybe it isnt all above board?

To the OP - have you spoken to your credit card company to find out why they declined the transaction? Doing a 0.00 or 0.01 transaction is a common way of testing a card is genuine/active without getting a decline just because your out of limit today and in itself isnt something to worry about.

As has been said before, it will be a test transaction to check the card is live and validate the details supplied.

This is very common and the amount the company use will vary with whom you apply with, some do £0, some do 1p, 10p, £2.50 etc.

I think your bank were over cautious when saying it is a scam.

After all if it is you that initiated the transaction then what is there to be scammed about?

I can understand perhaps it appeared out of the blue when you didn't apply for anything at all.

Then again, the banks must get a fair amount of fraudulent applications come through as mobiles are low-hanging fruit for the fraudsters and people calling up about these £0 transactions when they are indeed fradulent might make them mistakenly think they are all dodgy (due to poor training).

Was it the card that was declined? Or the application for credit? It may not be an issue with the cards - but with your credit file. What exactly was the message you received when you were declined?

I imagine each time you've pressed 'apply' or 'submit' a hard search has been carried out - so if you've done it three times - there's possibly three hard searches sitting on your credit file now.

As a result of that - any further attempt is also likely to fail - as a lot of credit searches on the same day can be viewed negatively.
