Moving house - different energy supplier - will I still be able to access old energy account?

Yes I can - and that's likely to be the answer. (But if I would still have access to the online account I wouldn't need to.)badger09 said:
Can’t you just download your recent bills?KittenChops said:Thanks everyone for your replies - I thought it was unlikely I'd be able to access the online account, but I will email Octopus & ask, and then post the reply back here.I know there’s a lot of admin when moving house, but this is a 5 minute job.Always keep copies of bills.British Gas overcharged me three times for energy I had already paid for with Neon Reef. I left NR well before they went bust but BG were given their customer records and kept trying to bill me for several months' usage provided by other suppliers. It was well hidden, just as well that I spotted a suspiciously low opening meter reading on a BG replacement bill about eight months after I'd joined BG.Even worse, having eventually corrected their error after I'd complained, they made exactly the same mistake twice more.
Eventually they said that they couldn't prevent their system automatically repeating the mistake, so we agreed that they'd make a one-off payment equivalent to the overcharged amount (plus £100 compo for the aggro). All seemed sorted out until the end of September when BG sent a nonsense letter wrongly stating that they'd failed to send a bill in June and I hadn't made a payment, so they'd collect it via a DD on or after 4 July 22 (sic). So far this hasn't happened...

if for some reason you forget you can always contact them to request they email you copies. we had to do this with eon recently after some confusion about a final bill being issued 2 years late (which we've still not gotten tot he bottom of) and i think they have to keep the records for at least 5 years. but i agree with other who say the easiest thing is to just do it now (i email myself things like copies of bills and screenshots of usage so i can always find them by just searching my mailbox if i need to)KittenChops said:

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1 -
Usually Octopus will email the bill to you each month so you should have copies there already...

Not having a go at you, honestly, but you’ve probably already spent more time trying to find out if you will still have access than it would have taken to download them.KittenChops said:

A long overdue update...
Moved on 6th Dec 2022 & gave Octopus final meter readings (no smart meters)
Octopus created the final bill on 7th Dec 2022
Octopus refunded my credit balance of nearly £400 to my bank account around 15th Dec 2022 (earlier than stated on the final bill)
Set up energy account with EDF at new property (it took multiple calls to EDF to get them to correct the opening reading to the lower one that we & the seller had agreed - good to know EDF's customer service is still as dire as it was when I'd been with them several years ago...)
Once that was sorted, I switched the account to Octopus effective 16th Dec 2022 & arranged for a smart meter to be installed (no mains gas as new house) on 29th Dec 2022.
Still have access to all of the bills at the old house.
Have since been taking part in the Octopus energy savings sessions!
One question, if anyone knows the answer?
When I switched to Octopus, I tried to do it online but it wouldn't let me, so I called them. I had a referral link from my brother to use online which I asked them about on the phone and I was told they're no longer doing that, yet I can still get my referral code from their website to pass on to someone else. Is it worth chasing this?1 -
Yes definitely chase them about the £50 referral.KittenChops said:A long overdue update...

Done - they've credited both accounts with £50 (already showing on mine) - thank you!Mstty said:

For reference: The person I spoke to said they had suspended the referral link thing late 2022 to early 2023. I had emailed them on 14th Dec 2022 to ask about it along with a photo of the meter for the opening reading - so maybe that helped my case.
ETA: and also already showing on the account of the person whose referral code I used.1 -
Nice one 👍1
