Why can't we get Channel 5 now we've moved?

Hello, hopefully someone can help as it's driving OH nuts! We moved house in Oct - just 2 streets away from where we live now, and we can't get Channel 5 since we moved in.

Previous occupant had sky (satellite dish still here) and some European channels with a massive sat dish (which he has taken).

We have old-fashioned TV - not digital (until we have no choice). We won't be having sky ourselves.

Please can you give me some ideas? Reception on BBC, ITV and Channel 4 is great.

Channel 5 is weaker signal strength. Get a new ariel, capable of receiving digital signal.

Enter your post code into this website here, it's possible that your channel 5 comes from a different transmitter. Are you using an external aerial?

Thanks for your replies. Think we'll have to wait until after Xmas for a new aerial.

Postcode for old house and new house gives exactly same transmitters.

Our current aerial is on the side of our single-storey house, poking above the roof. There is a two-storey house next door.

Yes I expected that would be the case but does channel five come from the same transmitter as channels 1-4?

Was your old Ariel poles going the same way as your new one?

If they were the other way around you will be on a different transmitter.

You do not have to have a new TV to receive Free View.

You can buy a Free View box for under £20.

The Ariel lead goes into the Free View box and a scart lead into the TV.

We were told we could not get it where we live but for the sake of £20 we tried and got the lot.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • we had to take the ariel out of our attic and put it on the roof to be able to get channel five make sure you point it the right way, but so places just wont be able to pick it up no matter how you try.

Don't forget that in really difficult reception areas, Freesat is an option. Plenty of used Sky boxes going cheap, a one-off purchase of a Freesat card (maybe £30) and you get similar channels to Freeview inc. C5. A Sat dish does not need to be on top of the roof either - I have one midway up the back wall for easy maintenance.
  • you can get a free view box for £20 now you should get 5 on that might be worth a try

Thank you all for your help. I did write on here yesterday morning but didn't realise that it hadn't been saved. We have stinking colds at the moment so are not venturing outside but we will look at everyone's options soon and decide what to so. (We need to do it soon as we want to watch Martin's new series!)
